I'm not really a basketball fan, but watching the buckeyes has been kinda fun so far this year. Anyone else getting in on this?

I have been very impresed with their play this year. They have taken on some really tough teams this year and won. Is that yet another big ten title for the buckeyes!?

Dare I say I like OSU basketball more than OSU football. They have tons of athleticism, but they need a lot more refinement. It's still early and they have 4 more home games in a row.
My main concern is lack of inside presence. Lauderdale is ok and getting better, but Mullens needs a lot of work and isn't getting many minutes. Any team with a serious inside game will have their way with the Bucks.

i agree. something different about Matta's crew than Tressel's. I have never liked OSU football, moreso the fanatical fans, but I can root, unapologetically, for the basketball team.

I just wish some of those blue chippers would stick around for more than a year. Can you imagine this team with Cook, Oden, and Conley? They would have been juniors this year.

went to the game last night against the fighting Dolphins of Jacksonville. The team looks really good, and it was great to see Lighty take control. If he can resume form, they would have a terrific duo in he and Turner, with Lauderdale and Mullens in the middle. It could gel to be a strong presence come March.

I love college football and enjoy cheering on my teams, but college basketball is where it's at and Buckeye games are super fun!! March Madness is better than Christmas and my birthday combined. Gotta get my Vegas tradition up and running again. Growing up really sucks, lol.

i obviously didn't notice that Lighty broke a foot in his bone this game and is now out 6-12 weeks. OSU has some people who can still step up, and they will need all of them as the Big 10 looks tough.
- Michigan State - a bit of a slow start for them, but they just took down #5 Texas
- Minnesota - is undefeated and took out #9 Louisville this weekend. They will surely be ranked this coming week.
- Michigan - has been a giant killer, and taken down both UCLA and Duke when each was ranked #4
- Purdue is ranked #13, and thus far is handing it to Davidson.
Through in the usual tough challenges in Illinois and Wisconsin, and you have a brutal Big 10 stretch.
Right now they are taking care of the W's they need, with a win against Iona today. They need to take care of UNC Asheville and then WVU will be a challenge before the conference schedule.

Oh, MENS basketball...was hoping for a thread about how completely freaking awesome Lavinder is or how Allen sure is one tough cookie.

LOL Well, I was in town to watch the women take apart Boston U. (unfortunately, not Boston College, which would have been infinitely more gratifying), but the Big Ten as a whole has been suffering on the women's basketball front. OSU at #17 is the only ranked team in the entire conference. The conference has lost just about every challenge from other power conferences it's faced. OSU got taken out by Auburn (SEC) and UNC (ACC). Purdue, one of the conference's traditional powers when I was in college, lost all three of its big early season challenges: Stanford, Maryland, and Notre Dame. And I don't even want to know what happened to Penn State--I remember going to some epic games between OSU and PSU at the Schott, and now the Lions aren't even .500, including some losses to unranked teams like Dayton. Indiana is the only other two-loss team in the conference and they've only played one ranked team (Xavier, ranked #22 at the time). Their other loss was to the unstoppable force of Middle Tennessee State.
Also, the Buckeyes used to schedule a nonconference game, and often a really good one, in the middle of the conference schedule. I liked the concept; it gave them a shot at measuring how they'd been progressing through the first half of conference play. They're not doing that this year. I'm pretty sure they played a home-and-home with Texas in January two of the years I was at OSU.

I wish I knew what even 1/2 of that post meant! I'm new to following basketball, but I've loved the games I've been to so far this season. I miss the Crew, especially since the crowd at these games are pretty quiet, but I think I can hang in sports-wise until spring. According to my husband, there are no songs or chants for this sport!

Jantel Lavinder is a sophmore who is well, pretty freaking awesome. Star Allen is from Columbus and she's very good, too but she creates a lot of fouls.

i'm into it O.State bball. it was not good to watch them get destroy by WV today. we were ranked 15th in the nation. it'll be interesting to see what they will be rank after this horrible loss to a very good non-ranked team.

OSU looked miserable in most aspects of the WVU game today. I was there, and granted the crowd didn't have a lot to cheer for and the students are on break, but physically the Schott is just a vacuum of energy.
Nonetheless, no excuse for the performance today. Shitty shooting, missed freethrows, and lack of leadership pretty much wrote the obit. on this one.
Get ready for the Big 10, boys!
