It's weird how the internet brings things to extremes.. my intention wasn't to vehemently defend the person that did this and become the voice of bad graffiti artistry. Just to say that I found it amusing and containing at least a slight amount of thought (even if poorly carried out and destructive). Maybe I need to work on my writing..

A lot of people don't like the fountain. It's not like you're best friends with the person that did it or proclaimed it some glorious act. It wasn't the first or last time someone found humor in an illegal act. If it was, I think decades of late night monologues and on-line postings could be brought to question.
Who knows, maybe the pond wildlife that found their ecosystem destroyed by the installation and repeated drainings were behind it?

Anybody else see the irony now in the "guerrilla" art piece from 2008 now?...Bet they didn't actually expect the pond to be sucked dry for two years...The water level in the pond as of right now is almost a full foot below what it should be, but apparently it has stabilized...FOGP really should put out a more definitive update.

Official statement from Friends of Goodale Park Board of Trustees, 7/19/12:
FOUNTAIN UPDATE:
We are awaiting final inspections of the lighting and fountain pumps. Both of these tests require the pond to be full (lights covered in water), and the current weather conditions are not allowing the pump to get ahead of the evaporation (approx 1/2 day).FGP has talked with the city about the potential of increasing the flow from the well so that the pond can once again reach full capacity and everything can be tested/inspected. Initial indications are that the well output can be increased and the city is awaiting further details as to how that can be achieved.

Sorry, the last sentence in the 1st paragraph should read "...current weather conditions are not allowing the pump to get ahead of the evaporation (approx 1/2 inch per day)."

Really wish you guys would stop blaming the weather and admit to poor project planning. Two years ago it was too cold, than it was too wet, now it's too hot. You guys know this is Ohio right?

You guys know this is Ohio right? As the Volunteer Coordinator for Friends, I do not have much involvement in the fountain project. However, I do post a lot of volunteer events on Columbus Underground, and I thought it would be helpful to get an official statement from the Friends and post it so that everyone could be up to date on the latest news.
I am not aware that the Friends have ever stopped contractors from doing their job due to weather. That's something the contractors would have done themselves. To my knowledge, the Friends have always encouraged the city and the contractors to complete the project as quickly and efficiently as possible.I am aware that we have not had sufficient rain in a long time. This, combined with the recent temperatures, has left the well unable to keep up with pond evaporation. This is not simply a statement from a group of board members, but an observation from Parks & Rec as well.
I'm happy to continue to post official statements from the Friends, regarding the fountain project, and I will pass along any legitimate and respectful questions from this thread to the FGP board.
Thanks.Posted 10 months ago # -

I don't complain very much AND I have volunteered many times. All of the issues this project has had were easily foreseeable.
Maybe you should stop trying to bully anyone who is not happy with the outcome of this project. Soooo let's look at the facts starting back in October of 2008.

What am I thinking....I'm sure they purposely made the pond leak, then be vandalized, and then face record dry weather. Yes, the Friends of Goodale Park are that EVIL.

Yeah, the "shut up and go away" sentiment isn't helpful or empowering.

Sorry! My bad! I guess one cannot be critical of a project that was suppose to take 3-4 months to complete.
I said the project was poorly planned and no one seems to want to admit that fact. They are always trying to blame someone else....or the weather. It would go a long way if someone said "Hey, sorry neighbors we made a mistake but we are working hard to fix it!" Instead of the approach that "We know exactly what we are doing and maybe the water blew away because of the wind" (YES that last excuse was used before)
I'd love to get into this topic more but don't think it's worth it . So feel free to PM if you want to get into more...
Oh and since I have volunteered and made contributions to this project I guess I support those Evil friends of Gooddale park and their wicked ways.
I guess you let me have it! ;)

Nice things we can't have:
- A beautiful pond without a fountain
- A beautiful pond with an attractive fountain
- A full pond with an ugly fountain
- A full pond with an ugly fountain without graffiti

Do we have a date yet on when this thing is getting turned on?

I hear the city is going to put a new pump in the well and it should double the flow of water. They are collecting bids for the pump, hopefully it will be done in a month or so. At least the water level has stabilized and the leak has been fixed.
