Ok so I have been on this forum for a long time now, kinda just lurking, chiming in when i feel the need....

but I have needed the opinions of you columbus-ers lately so please help :-)

I have mentioned before that I just moved to the brewery district. Oddly enough, I decided to expand my beer repertoir LOL

So i was doing some googling and I came across Hoster's and Barleys. Which after a search on here i think they may have moved or closed??

Can someone confirm that?

or just suggest a good beer! I seem to like the wheat beers

Good breweries include CBC (Columbus Brewing Company), Elevator, and Barley's. I would get CBC's beer at a real bar sine the location itself closes way too early and functions as a restaurant.

Hosters is long gone, sadly, as that was one of the brewery names from the 1800s. Barely's is best, CBC second, and I haven't tried Elevator.

I suggest you get some of those half-gallon "growler" bottles and have them re-filled - no trash!

I wasn't sure if Hoster's was because I was served a beer in a Hoster's glass at Jimmy V's. Thanks for clearing it up!

You can still get Hoster's Gold Top beer on draught at several places around town. I think Jimmy V's carries it from time to time, and I know the GV Max & Erma's has it on tap. I lived around the corner from the old brewpub on South High and the current Hoster beer tastes exactly as I remember.

CBC's Apricot Ale is fantastic. Not "fruity" like most fruit beers, just a smooth amber ale with slight hint of apricot.

Elevator Brewing Company just tapped Watermelon Wheat today. It was a good watermelon wheat - just mildly sweet, and not as bitter as 21st Amendment Watermelon Wheat. It's a great Summer beer option.
