WCRS / WCRX Stations Sharing Low-Power 102.1FM

Earlier this week, the FCC mandated that WCRS must reduce their broadcast hours effective immediately. Beginning tomorrow, WCRS will be broadcasting daily from 3PM to 8PM daily, from broadcasting from 6AM to 9AM and from 3PM to 1AM daily.

This is all due to the FCC's ruling on the timeshare agreement that WCRS has with Bexley Public Radio. The FCC sided with Bexley.

NO Locally produced programs will be cancelled because of the reduced hours.

The new schedule will be up soon after it is decided on by the Programming Committee.

This seems like such a waste. If I understand the FCC regulations, both parties just need to agree on the sharing of the time, and the station is on the air 24 hours a day.

I wonder why they are so petty????

Low-power radio stations reach deal on broadcast hours

After a lengthy struggle over who could broadcast when, low-power, community radio stations in Columbus and Bexley reached an agreement today.

Bexley Public Radio (WCRX-LP) and The Neighbor Network (WCRS-LP) are separate groups with independent programming, but they share the same frequency at 102.1 FM. The frequency is best heard on the East Side, but can be picked up in pockets across Franklin County.

Once the new arrangement takes effect, the Bexley station will broadcast from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the Columbus group will take the other half of the day. They've been debating the broadcast schedule for two and a half years.

Having worked for WCRS from 2007 to 2009, I'd say the two stations relationships was very sour because of the Kim Jung Il-like position taken by the head of WCRX, and I never met the man. I only experienced him through these awful stories from our engineer and director.

Sounds like relationships became sour because people who worked at the stations didn't bother meet and would rather sling insults based on second-hand stories.

so very true Walker, there are very few people who actually have any face time with the other side. As one who know just about everybody involved, most people are fine, and those who think the other side is dumb, or unreasonable are just that.

funny how we never see ourselves as anything but perfect.

which is exactly why a time share agreement that was offered two and a half years ago just gut accepted today, without any changes. You can't blame that one on WCRX.

^^ Cyclist Guy, WCRS was forced to cut back on hours (an FCC ruling) last May, when WCRS took the unused hours by three other low-power FM's that never got off the ground; WCRS transferred its license from Simply Living to the Neighborhood Network last month, and the Neighborhood Network got to work on the timeshare agreement almost immediately, and both stations are looking to fill up broadcast hours.

Basically, that's the Cliff's Notes version of it.
