City Center has a bookstore left in it. Not a sweet ass bookstore but...
Downtown "area" has the Book Loft (best choice) and two B & N (Lennox and South Campus), Grandview and Clintonville both have good options for used books.

Yeah, I'd say the Book Loft gives you the best odds for cracking open a leatherbound volume that hasn't been touched in decades.

OT, but if you're ever in Cincinnati on a weekend afternoon, check out this place:
Hard to find, open limited hours, in a sketchy neighborhood, but it's an awesome used bookstore.

+1 for Book Loft
Best bookstore in Columbus.

Another vote for book loft. Give yourself plenty of time and explore. Then head to the Cup o Joe next door for a cup of coffee and some time to yourself and that new book. If you go at the right time, I think Book Loft has a promotion for a gift certificate to COJ based on your purchase.

In general I like the Book Loft a whole lot, though their coverage in some areas (fiction) strikes me as much better than in others (history, social science). For the latter I'd try Book Loft first but probably end up looking elsewhere, possibly -- I hate to say it -- the megastores like B&N.
As an aside, if you're a book fan visiting Detroit, budget a good half-day to visit John K. King Books. You won't regret it.

I'm a big fan of Half Priced books. There is also a decent used book store right next to Weilands. Neither of these is exactly downtown, but worth checking out if you happen to have some time to kill in Clintonville.

It's about a two mile walk. I might. I might need. Oh God. I might need a bike. I just puked a little in my mouth.

The #8 will also get you there if you feel the need to choke back your vomit rather than spurt it out.

I bet these guys have the book you are looking for
http://www.columbuslibrary.org/
We consistently have the best library in the nation. I love our library so much. The ease of just going online and reserving books and having them waiting in folder is unmatched by anywhere else I've been. You can also easily renew online.

Actually, every library in Columbus had 0 copies of the book I want. HA HA! I guess it's that popular!

I was in the City Center bookstore last Monday. Waldenbooks I think. Me and my girlfriend were the only ones there. Very nice environment to read in- City Center.

My roommate told me this the other night and I swear my jaw hit the floor.
I'm gonna have to start using it more...

I think all the very cool old bookstores pulled out of the downtown area in the 80s. As for finding some dusty old volume full of arcane lore, my bet would be Karen Wickliff's would be the place to go. You'd almost expect some little ol' man to pop out from behind the counter and sell you a Gremlin® there.
