As is the case with all new ideas and concepts, the general public needs to be educated and informed to completely understand and accept the idea. In this instance, Industry Standard, the new home for urban underground streetwear fashion and music is introducing an ever growing costal look and feel to the midwest. Our goal is to provide individuals who are looking for a different style with options. The lines we will be introducing are unobtainable in this portion of the country... not because they arent sought after, but because the designers and vendors have yet to find a worthy shop in and around our area to display their coastal streetwear. That is of course until now. The crossover between the skateboard and hip hop cultures is more apparent than ever. Lupe Fiasco... Pharrell Williams... Tony Hawk... the '06 Summer XGames in LA (theme song for this years games was written and performed by underground hip hop legend, Murs: Im from LA)... Nikes domination in the hip hop fashion shoe world (just so happens the shoes everyone are wearing are titled, Nike SB... SB for skateboarding)... This evelution dates back to Run DMC and AeroSmith (Walk this Way).
In all, we are trying to shed some light on an ever growing culture that will eventually make a full emergence in and around the Midwest market place. Our goal is to make sure that the culture is represented properly. By introducing the lines created and designed by OG LA and NYer's, we are bringing a piece of their everyday lives to the city.
Lastly, our dedication to being the onestop shop for local musicians (hip hop and rockers alike). If you heard it on the streets, we will try our best to play it... If you saw it on TV or in a Magazine, we will try our best to carry it. Industry Standard's fully functional recording studio is going to offer an affordable recording option for unsigned, aspiring artists. This town has way too many talented musicians to constantly be overlooked (due to reason beyond my wildest imagination).
I urge anyone who is interested in learning more about our store to come check out the party at BoMA on the 6th. Whats the worst that can happen... I mean, it is Good Friday and all... in a church. For an introduction to the clothing lines we will carry in house check out the following links:
