I also wanted to note that the Jackets have gone 6-3-2 since October 27, and despite a couple of ugly losses recently, are grinding out some steady points.
I think the season isn't *quite* over yet.

Well, it was a hell of an opening game for the 09/10 season, great effort, and a sold out arena. Might be hard to get ramped up for Hockey in October, but ain't Picture in Picture great, when you have OSU and the Blue Jackets playing at the same time!

wait... OSU was playing tonight too?

I was loving every minute of it... except we couldn't get it in HD. Not sure if that was the fault of TW or FSN.

Coleman hints at public takeover of Nationwide Arena
Officials involved in talks to stabilize the Columbus Blue Jackets' finances hinted yesterday that the plan taking shape is likely to include public ownership of Nationwide Arena.
In an appearance on All Sides With Ann Fisher, the WOSU-AM public-affairs program, Mayor Michael B. Coleman said he envisions the involvement of both the Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority and Ohio State University's Schottenstein Center.

This is absurd. There are no viable markets for an NHL franchise so all the team can do is threaten. The NHL over expanded and is feeling the pain that came with moving into markets that cannot support them. To think that there still exists a city/region where they can make money is absurd. On top of that, state and local governments are starting to wise up and realize that providing a sports franchise with a facility is a losing proposition.

hilarious picture of the front of the dispatch sports page...the jackets goalie looks like he's really enjoying himself!

They won last night. Good game :)

Actually, that's the Tampa Bay goalie, looking somewhat chagrined as Rick Nash just put a shot past him into the net. Lying beneath the goalie is RJ Umberger with the big grin, after his slick pass from that prone position enabled Nash to score the winning goal.

Here is the latest on attempts to resolve the Blue Jackets' financial woes.

Would it really be so awful if the bluejackets did leave? Since Nationwide won't rewrite their lease, maybe a new beginning with a new team is the only way forward.
They seemed doomed from the beginning, the name was leaked and everyone complained before it was even released. They did a Blue and Yellow mascot, then quickly added the greenish tinge to soften the resemblance to another well known "Blue".
It could be a rough couple years if they left, but we still have an awesome arena, so I think we could attract a stronger team currently in a softer market.
I think the Boomer fiasco is just one more example of the wrong approach to growing the fanbase.
I'm sorry to say, they are a crappy team, with a dumb name; Even "Carry the flag" is just so lame.
Can we just rename them the Columbus Chill and start over?
