Columbus Blue Jackets' players glad to be back on ice
12:19 AM, Jan 8, 2013
Written by Rusty Miller, Associated PressA dozen or so Columbus Blue Jackets players went through a light workout on Monday, their first unofficial meeting since the NHL and the players’ union reached a tentative agreement after a lengthy lockout. All said they were pleased just to get back to work.
“It’s just great to see all the boys back in Columbus here and skating together,” defenseman James Wisniewski said of the skatearound at the public rink adjoining Nationwide Arena.

Will Blue Jackets Fans Return After Lockout?
By: DENISE YOST | NBC4
Published: January 07, 2013After more than 100 days, the NHL lockout is over, which is good news for fans of the Columbus Blue Jackets. But with two league lockouts in the past decade and a less-than-exceptional run on the ice, will the Blue Jacket faithful return to Nationwide Arena to support the team?

Upcoming Games:
DELETEDThe season isn't starting until the 19th and they are redrafting the entire schedule. Teams will only play games against others in their conference, no cross-over games for the shorten season.
Reports have the Jackets opening on the road against Nashville (on 1/19) and the home opener being the 21st against Detroit.

Sorry, looks like old info! thanks!

From what I've read, the updated schedule may be released as early as Saturday.
Scuttlebutt is that first game is 1/19 in Nashville, then 1/21 in Columbus versus Red wings.

One thing we know for sure is that the Arena District did not fall into disrepair and become an economic blight and ghost town like the BJ's claimed when they wanted the city to pick up some of the tab on the stadium.

And we all kind of knew that the NHL would have been back, right?
That's not quite the same as not having a "home team" leave the neighborhood.

Game on: Hockey is back
Here’s why you should care (even if you aren’t a Blue Jackets fan)
By Brad Keefe
From the January 17, 2013 edition
It’s January, Columbus, and you know what that means! Time for the start of Blue Jackets hockey! Wait … huh? Yeah, that NHL labor dispute that threatened to eliminate the hockey season (for the second time in a decade) was finally settled, so they’re set to drop the puck at Nationwide and play out a half-season of hockey! (Minus that All-Star Game that Columbus was scheduled to host.)

I was finally able to get myself scheduled off so my wife and I could go to the game and there are no tickets available. I guess that's a good sign for the Jackets and we'll only be dining out that evening!

Figures that Alive would put a positive spin on this. This will be an interesting development to watch. My prediction is that the Blue Jackets are going to point to "sell out crowds" as everyone embracing the team / the NHL. Keep in mind that Columbus Business First published a story the other day stating that full season ticket holder counts are down from about 8,000 to 7,000. Those with partial season tickets were given tickets to at least one additional game for free; all season / partial season ticket holders were given the opportunity to purchase additional tickets ($15 for upper bowl, $25 for lower bowl) instead of what they usually cost in prior years ($70+ for lower bowl).
Of course they're going to pack the stands -- people who aren't super passionate about the team or the sport who would never shell out $70+ for a ticket would want to jump at the chance to go to one game with good seats so they can have that experience; but it wouldn't surprise me if that was a one-time thing.
Huntington also gave away 25 tickets to each of the 24 home games this season. More people "filling the seats" to help give the false impression that nobody here cares about the greed of the NHL or the players association.
It'll be interesting to see what the actual turnout is for games next season when the team's budget for seducing fans into the arena has run dry -- especially if the Jackets haven't upped their game since last season.

From Broadway to the Blue Jackets
Published on January 18, 2013 10:55 am
By: Jason ParksGet the Video Plugin After a 119-day hiatus from hockey due to the lockout, players across the NHL are gearing up for a 48-game schedule over a condensed time frame. Players have the pressure of having only a week worth of training camp to prepare for the upcoming rigorous 2013 campaign. For two new players who arrived in Columbus due to a trade with the former face of the franchise, Rick Nash, they’ll have to quickly get used to a new city and environment with the Blue Jackets.
