Blue Jackets: What went wrong (already)?

Just before the last Blue Jackets home game, I met some friends at a nearby restaurant. With about 15 minutes to game time, a guy sat down next to me at the bar. He asked the bartender to turn on the Jackets game. “I might as well get a good meal and watch the first period to see whether I should bother going.” He was a season ticket holder.

This isn’t supposed to happen. Well, maybe in February … but not this early. Not this season. But with the Jackets off to a dismal, franchise-worst 2-11-1 start, who can blame him?

Realignment proved best option for multiple teams

Detroit, Columbus and Winnipeg are among the teams that will benefit the most from the new plan. The benefits for the Jets are obvious -- many more games against teams in the Central time zone and far less travel.

Either the Red Wings or the Blue Jackets would have been helped by the "simple" solution, but one would have been left as the lone remaining Eastern time zone team in the Western Conference. Both clubs will be able to maintain rivalries with teams like Chicago (and each other), and more games will start between 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. -- as opposed to having so many late-night contests on the West Coast.

CBJ just fired head coach Scott Arniel this morning.

Also, an update from the posts above. The NHL players have rejected the division realignment set to take effect next season.

not long ago, Howson was saying that they just aren't getting what they should be getting out of their players, which is a coaching issue, but didn't think coaching was a problem.

good to see he's not completely crazy.

I hope they bring in someone who actually practices the players. It seems like they cancel half of their practices from what I see come across their twitter feed.

Rick Nash Apparently Unhappy in Columbus

New news has come out of the Columbus Blue Jackets camp that captain Rick Nash is unhappy with the direction of the franchise is headed towards. Although Nash has continually turned down the fact that he wants to stay in Columbus.

Was at the game last night....jackets showed great effort and put on a good show. Hopefully we'll see more of this for the remainder of the year and some of our better players will want to stick around. This season has been a real shame.

How crucial is this? The face of the franchise could be out, replaced by...

I'm trying to avoid realizing the same architects of this mess of a franchise, Scott Howson and Mike Priest, are still in control of fixing it.

If they can pull off a number one goalie, a scoring defenseman along with a number one pick and a prospect they'll probably pull the trigger.

If Nash goes does Carter follow?

There's still twelve days of this speculation. Ugh.

Jeff Carter has been traded to the L.A. Kings for defenseman Jack Johnson and a conditional first round pick. If the Kings make the playoffs this season, it's this year, if not, next. I think that's how it works.

The dismantling continues. Unfortunately it's being done by Howson, who put the current team together.

Essentially CBJ get Johnson and a future number one pick for Carter, Voracek and the CBJ's 2011 first round pick.

How many picks do we have in this year's draft? My god we sure are starting over. To bad things didn't work with Carter... I liked him. But our defense is looking pretty freaking scary with Johnson and Wisnewiski. Oohh.

I'm excited about these changes. Carter never seemed to click with the team, which put the offense at a deficit. Defense has been a nightmare in the third period. This trade for Johnson may solve both issues.
