Anyone else following this? What an idiot! How can you be so arrogant to think you're not going to get caught doing something like this?

Hmmmm... yeah, that's sketchy.

I'm amazed that he thought he was going to get away with everything he was trying to pull. Real Dumass material.

The saddest part is that if this goes all the way through the courts, this will make him the FOURTH Illinois governor convicted of white collar crimes.

This all makes Bob Taft look good in comparison. I wonder what it is about Illinoisans that makes them so much more complacent about political corruption than Ohioans.

What makes you think anyone's being complacent? The guy was just arrested.

Oh, come on.

That this arrest came while the Council on Governmental Ethics Laws (COGEL) was having its annual conference in Chicago is freaky – and, to my knowledge, a first for the organization.

I'm actually partially serious there. The fact is, corruption was so rampant in Chicago during Capone's time, I'm sure there's a bit of that left over. It literally became a tradition.

This at least partially support's Core's thoughts -

The continued election of people that are corrupt. It's not just about Blagojevich. More like catnfiddle's comment - four governors arrested for corruption to Ohio's one (for golfing.)
Edit: You know how some people habitually pick bad boyfriends who cheat on them? At some point, after so many cheaters, you have to think part of the problem is with the person that keeps picking cheaters.

Ohio: Former home of Elliott Ness.

And let's not forget this is the city home to a team that actually threw the World Series

Corrupt officials are being caught and convicted. That suggests the opposite of complacency to me.

Yeah, that's relevant.

Actually it is. There's a number of books out detailing the long history of corruption as a tradition and way of life in Chicago, and that's part of it.
Organized crime's hold on the city was astonishing, almost the entire police force was on their payroll, let alone government officials...and yes, that's who fixed the World Series game.

Caught by Federal agents and convicted in Federal courts. Illinois law enforcement and courts are not really participating in these investigations.

I think you should contact MSNBC and let them know there's no connection...

Cookie, normally I appreciate your acid tongued contrarianism, but maybe some of your firmly held (if not firmly, then why protest so much) beliefs aren't based on fact?
