So I'd like to bike to work but I dont know a good route to go. I'd like to stay off roads where cars are doing 50 and wouldn't mind taking a dedicated bike path most of the way. I live by Tuttle Crossing (for now, dont' come down to hard on me for that) and need to make my way up to Polaris and def. need to stay off Polaris Parkway......that's a death trap. Any ideas?

I'm starting to think that might be my only choice. To anyone out there who is thinking about living in this area, by Tuttle Mall.....don't. I was forced into it and have hated it for the last couple months.

Unfortunately, I agree with dredd. You're commuting through the Land of the Car. Not only are people in that area not used to bikes in traffic, but most of the routes you could pick are high speed roads. You certainly would have to cross dozens of six lane intersections.

Ha, well one of the big reasons I wanted to do this was for the exercise. I think the Moped idea might not help me out with that.

Why does everyone always feel unfortunate to agree with me? What the F!!!!!!

dredd, I think the unfortunate part is that bike isn't safe, not having to agree with you

I hear it takes some fine leg muscles to keep a big motorcycle steady, especially when stopped at a light with someone on the back. You could motorcycle-pool to and from work to build those quads! :D

Is COTA an option? Take COTA part way and bike the rest...
Depending on how far and where, you can also drive to a nearby trail head for one of the paths.

Ok, well next question would be; I'm looking to move to the Short North in the next month or two and I thought the bike path went all the way up 315. If i can get that far I can shoot down ok side streets to make it the rest of the way. Does this sound right/do-able?

Bike to work from the Short North to Polaris???? Either you are Lance Armstrong or you have alot of free time to dedicate to comuting via bike that far.... more power to ya!

I have two or three friends that do this, however one of them was badly injured from a car, so... don't know what to tell you. BrianG and LuaraA might be able to assist, shoot them a PMPosted 3 years ago # -
Head to Bikeforums, a lot commute 15-20 miles +, one way.

That would be about 15 miles one way. Realistically you're looking at about an hour each way which is totally doable depending on your bike and your physical condition. It's been a couple years since I've been on the path, but last I checked they were working on the northern end near 270.

The path does run all the way up to the Hills Market area. Problem is you will be on the wrong side of the river at that point and will need to go all the way to Powell Rd to cross over again. You could get off at Wilson Bridge Rd and take that across High to Worthington Galena Rd. Then go north on Sancus all the way to Polaris. This is not ideal, even though these are smaller roads they get pretty crazy at rush hours and don't have much of a berm.
If you have a mountain bike, I know someone who takes the bike path up to Wilson Bridge Rd and then uses the railroad right of ways to get the rest of the way. This also seems pretty dangerous to me.

The bike is now street worthy and I am biking to work tomorrow.
Please do not run me down, you impatient homicidal SUV driving lunatics!

Ha, no I'm just really sick of driving. Ideally I'd like to get a ride to work in the morning and ride home. That way I could take my time a bit and I could shower at my own place when I got home.

I used to do a similar route, but only one way. My wife worked at Tuttle and I worked on Henderson. So I'd have her drop me off with my bike in the morning, and ride about 18 miles down the Olentangy path to Berliner then to my neighborhood. My work didn't have showers, and I could get pretty messy after 18 miles. Doing that both ways sounds like a great workout though, go for it!
Today I ride 7 miles each way to downtown, much more manageable, though Front St through German village is really bumpy right now. :/

I've commuted a few times from Merion Village to my office at Polaris. I have to wear dress clothes, don't have a shower at work and have to carry a heavy laptop, so it doesn't work very well.
I used to more or less take 4th, to Indianola, to Sinclair/Huntley, to Worth Galena to Orion. Cars move pretty quickly down these roads, but I never had a problem.
The bike path is also an option, but personally I am more comfortable on the road. If taking the bike path I would take Wilson Bridge to Sancus.
Overall, the Polaris area is one of the worst places in the city to ride.
