So, I heard on 610 WTVN that a few central Ohio Big Lots stores have applied for liquor licenses to server wine and beer. Apparently they're trying to prop up their groceries which account for 1/3 of sales. Odd.
I use to buy $1 cereal there...but that was long ago.
What do you all think?

^ Hah, home beach party with an inflatable palm tree, play sand, a lawn chair, a fan with streamers on it, cheap shades and a few rounds of slap the bag with cheapo wine... in November with Van Halen cranked. I support the idea.

My guess is that they are making deals to buy overproduction stock from the big guys, probably a lot of Bud lite lime and Chelada/Clamato.
Maybe they did get all of the recalled 4Loko. :)
I once bought canned spaghetti from Big Lots which was labeled in English and Arabic. It was $.25 a can but came out like jellied cranberry sauce.

Actually, I said "server." LOL I meant sell. Serving at BigLots, that'd be a story!

Big Lots to try alcohol to stimulate food sales

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Big Lots is hoping to boost its sales of groceries by adding alcohol to the mix. While the Columbus-based closeout retailer has long offered beer and wine at some stores, in particular its California outlets, the company recently applied for liquor licenses on behalf of six of its 20 Big Lots stores in central Ohio.

I think I would actually stop in to check out beer sales if it were interesting 6 packs or whatever. I'd love to find a random beer from some other state that just doesn't get to Ohio for whatever reason.
...as long as its not too old.

melikecheese, probably won't have any luck. Licensed retailers, restaurants, and bars can only sell what's distributed to Ohio. That's why you don't find businesses selling Three Floyd's, New Belgium, Yuengling, and other breweries that aren't distributed to Ohio. So Big Lots and others can't sell these products.
