Definitely some great sandwiches on the list, but what other great sandwiches didn't make the cut?

My favorite sandwich was the Korey's Club from Beekman's (RIP...sniffle.)
Veggie cream cheese, colby, cucumbers, tomato, and sprouts on a sourdough bagel. Mmmm. I re-create this sandwich for myself quite often, but it's not quite the same without being magically steamed to perfection.
BEEKMAN's BAGEL DELI! Oh wow, I mourn that place every time I walk up High past the chicken fingers franchise. Korey's Club and the hot bagel with spicey hummus were my favorites. The bar at the window was perfect for people watching as you ripped into your yummy messy sandwhich. *sniffle*
here's another RIP memory - from the King Ave coffeehouse, which was a gritty vegetarian restaurant where Dragonfly currently resides. I thought it was heaven when I was in college.
King Ave Pita - grilled tempeh tossed with tarragon and whole grain mustard in pita with tons of sprouts. yummy! Every time I buy tempeh from Toad Hill Organics I want to recreate this yumminess.

My favorite sandwich is number 1, 2 or 3 for only $4 from Lac Viet Market in the North Market. The crusty french bread, ham, beef or chicken with cilantro, cucumbers, pate and exotic spices is like no other sandwich in America.
I think the Mother Mohawk is so worth a mention...house made chicken salad, roast beef, swiss, and horseradish sauce. NOM! It's sooo goooood.
And if a pita can count as a sandwich then I also vote for the shawarma pita at Pita Hut.
Also, Jim Sweeney turned me on to PB and J on dark rye bread. It's sodamngood!
gk -- go and try the Mi Li Cafe version that is mentioned in the article. I don't think you will be disappointed.
PB&J from Krema Nut Company on Goodale.
Hummus Dagwood from the Dube.
Another vote for the MoMo (Mother Mohawk). Also the Flatiron Muffaletta, not a unique sandwich if you've been to N'Awlins, but most places serve it cold & I prefer the heated version Flatiron makes. Another uniquely sadistic sandwich would be the deep fried meatloaf sandwich at Eddie George's, yeah it's pretty self-explanatory.
the Mohawk Stroller from Brown Bag and the Bacon, Avocado and Fig jam from Cafe Corner are 2 other goodies.
Ugh. We drunkenly ordered one of those deep fried sandwiches at Eddie George one night just out of sheer curiosity. They should be sued for attempting to serve something so disgusting. They didn't even make us pay for it thank god. I gag just thinking of that grease filled tempura battered bun.
Nature Nurture, also from Beekman's (btw, in case someone doesn't know, Bagel Street in Athens shares the same menu as Beekman's and is still open, although the hours are cruddy). As memory serves, it's smoked cheddar, cucumbers, tomato, red onion, lettuce & Italian dressing on a bialy, then the whole thing is steamed (which is where the magic happens, if you ask me). I'd never heard of a steamed bagel before Beekman's/Bagel Street; I'm surprised more places don't do it.
There's a joint in oxford that steam's em. must be a college town thing.
edit: steam's?? wtf. I just read that punctuation thread and apparently it's contagious.
benevolence cafe has that fabulous baked tofu sandwich w/ del's tofu. yum.
A Monte Cristo but what Tip Top makes ain't it...

The whole sandwich needs to be battered and deep fried and served with sweets.
banana bean's calle ocho (sp?) is pretty darned good. i love that olive relish. beware of the giant garlic cloves, vampires.
Johnny Oaks' Shrimp Jambalaya Po Boy is one heck of a sandwich, as well.
I love the Tempeh Salad Sandwich at Bodega. Consists of "vegan salad" (seems to be some kind of dense, bean-dominant concoction) with roma tomatoes, romaine lettuce, and "vegannaise".
I'm not a vegan, or a vegetarian, but I love this sandwich, and I almost always order it when I go to Bodega.
They got rid of it for awhile, but I guess enough people complained that they, happily, brought it back. Try it sometime!
