They went for a longer shot but "pied" the punkin' (i.e. pretty much vaporized it).
That's kinda what I'm thinkin'... the impressive part isn't so much the flying through the air for nearly a mile, as much as getting something as fragile as a pumpkin up to that speed in a relatively short distance without turning it into orange mist.
Totally! One of the neat parts of the show was a discussion of how they're selecting pumpkin species for toughness, symmetry, and density. The current favorite is 'White Ghost' pumpkin 'cause they have a very thick body and a high density core compared to the average everyday orange jobber.
Everything about this show was damnedhellass cool.
I'm 'bout to watch it again with the mrs.
