2009 Pumpkin Flinging contest.
It's on now on Sci and SciHD (TW 1132).
There's a preliminary show called "The road to Punkin' Chunkin'" that will be re-shown at 11pm followed by the Punkin' Chunkin' reshown at midnight.
If you like flying gourds (as I do) and amazing feats of misapplied engineering (as I do!) you'll love this.

LOL! I absolutely am not kidding when I say that I thought of you when I saw this show RMM. BTW, if you have WOW cable, there's a bunch of extra stuff from the show on the TV Entertainment On Demand section that I plan on checking out over the weekend.

That's kinda what I'm thinkin'... the impressive part isn't so much the flying through the air for nearly a mile, as much as getting something as fragile as a pumpkin up to that speed in a relatively short distance without turning it into orange mist.

Totally! One of the neat parts of the show was a discussion of how they're selecting pumpkin species for toughness, symmetry, and density. The current favorite is 'White Ghost' pumpkin 'cause they have a very thick body and a high density core compared to the average everyday orange jobber.
Everything about this show was damnedhellass cool.
I'm 'bout to watch it again with the mrs.
