What is the best state park for a weekend getaway? I'm sending my husband with a friend as his bday gift. I have to make rezzies today (his bday is tomorrow) so advice is welcome ASAP :)
Ideally I want them to be able to stay in a lakeside cabin, but any cool scenery or hiking would make it worth the while. Thanks in advance!

What activities does your husband like? There are parks with various levels of mountain biking trails, some more focused on hiking trails, some have lakes good for power boats, some for canoeing. Do you want a Lake Erie park, a river park, a mountain park (for whatever pathetic mountains we have). Is it important to be near a city so he can go into town to see movies?

Maumee Bay has both a lodge and cabins you can stay in, and it's right on the lake. It's a bit of a drive from here, but my family used to take a mini vacation there every year.

Before they opened in the 90's we went to Deer Creek, which I also enjoyed. I believe it's also situation on/near water.

I'd look at wild and wonderful West Virginia. A few of my favorites down there are Spruce Knob/Caanan Valley area (Seneca Rocks, Dolly Sods, Nelson Rocks) New River Gorge area (Lake Somerville, rafting and climbing.) Also, the Appalachian Trail south from Hapers Ferry is really amazing.
If you are set on Ohio I love Lake Katherine State Nature Preserve, Highlands Nature Sanc, Malabar Farms and the Hocking Hills.
