Akai Hana- yes, Kihachi- depends. I think Kihachi will only serve what the chef can get freshest and feels best about. I've had amazing otoro (the fattiest cut of toro) there, but it's not always on the menu. If they do have it, you'll be glad you made the trip.

agreed. I had some delicious, fatty toro the other night. Akai, seems to have a regular line on it lately. Oh it is so delicious. They have it as nigiri and in a roll of some sorts. Just do the simple nigiri - you'll remember it.

Sushi En up off Polaris by the Rave theaters also has excellent high quality sushi, including toro (usually). Kooma and Akai Hana are also still personal faves.
And I definitely agree on Zen. The selection is poor, the quality was mediocre, the service was AWFUL. The whole conveyor-belt concept was good for some novelty points at least, and took what would've otherwise been a miserable experience into a "meh" one.

Have you ever had a massage with a soothing medicinal salve intertwined with a steaming towel filled with lemon zest and graded ginger root? You can feel your stress fade away and your shoulders relax as the ginger causes a numbing sensation and the heat brings blood up to the skins surface. Now imagine that combined with an orgasm in you are in about the same place after one bite of food from Kihachi! For a friend’s birthday, we went to Kihachi last Friday night. One of the dishes was mackerel pressed with real wasabi and a perilla leaf. They separated the pieces with a lime slice. It was sublime. We also had some fluke sashimi that was paper-thin and some barbecued eel from the hibachi grill that I don’t believe I chewed- the flavor just infused into my stomach. We also had saga tofu, vegetable tempura (lotus root, sweet potato, squash ect.) and what I am convinced were homemade udon noodles! My friend also had pork cheeks that looked amazing!

Yeah, Kooma's pretty good. I had a roommate 3-4 years back that spun there sometimes, so I used to go there frequently.
That said, it's almost blasphemous to compare Kooma to Kihachi! If you haven't been there... I'm tellin' ya, it's that good.
That said, I'm running to Danny's to pick up a reuben. Shall I get you one? :P

I said it on another thread... but the Shrimp Tempura Roll that substitues fried sweet potatos instead of the shrimp... is awesome at Haiku.

Man, that is my new favorite at Haiku, but with the shrimp! Can't believe I didn't find it until recently, but I don't branch out too often.
I know most people think that Haiku's sushi is not as good as a lot of other places, but Haiku is less than 2 blocks from my house. I'd much rather walk there and sit on their patio (in the summer of course) than drive anywhere else.
