Lemongrass.
Haiku is closer, but it sucks.

I like Mr. Sushi in Gahana but nothing is better than Kihachi. Most of the menu is in Japanese but you only need two words- omakase and doumo

Although it's blasphemy for me to say anything but Kooma, they've dissed me too many times  . I'd stick with Hama at Easton, Shoku in Grandview, Akai Hana (formerly Restaurant Japan), Tyfoon, Haiku or Lemongrass... in that order.

Agree with Kihachi and Akai Hana. I've found Hama at Easton a little too over priced and have not been impressed with Shoku.

Kooma all the way.

word. everyone thinks haiku has the best sushi just because its the stereotypical sushi joint in town... every asshat who doesnt ever eat sushi goes to haiku and raves about how great it was... its average at best. i prefer lemongrass or kooma.

KOOMA!!!!!!! 2004 Roll still one of my all time favorites. Typhoon sometimes has a good night for Sushi...hit or miss. Never disappointed at KOOMA. If you want the best in the state of Ohio, BELUGA in Cincinnati....HOLY MACAROLY.....

Enzo, have you been to Kihachi? Although it sounds like you are hook line and sinker for the most gimmicky rolls?

Man, haters on the Haiku. I'm no sushi expert like you guys are  , but I'd say it's far from crap. I'd also like to note that Haiku, although not on the scale of some of the mentioned joints, does have a great patio! Kooma on the other hand, is the size of my bedroom and sometimes pretty hard to get a table.

I like some rolls but mostly it is the white tuna sashimi that is my ultimate love....and that soup with octopus that you get as an appetizer

Effects of consumption
Like its relative the oilfish (Ruvettus pretiosus), it cannot metabolise the wax esters (Gempylotoxin) naturally found in their diet, which accumulates to give an oil content in the muscle meat of 18–21%. These wax esters may rapidly cause gastrointestinal symptoms following consumption; however, these effects are usually short lived.
The gastrointestinal symptoms, called "keriorrhoea", caused by these wax esters may include oily orange diarrhea, discharge, or leakage from the rectum that may smell of mineral oil. The discharge can stain clothing and occur without warning 30 minutes to 36 hours after consuming the fish. The oil may pool in the rectum and cause frequent urges for bowel movements due to its lubricant qualities and may be accidentally discharged by the passing of gas. Symptoms may occur over a period of one or more days. Other symptoms may include stomach cramps, loose bowel movements, diarrhea, headaches, nausea, and vomiting.
To minimize the risk of symptoms, strict control of portion size is recommended as well as preparation methods that remove some of the oil (e.g. grilling). Portions should be no greater than 6 ounces.

I think it is important to tease out what people mean when they say 'sushi.' If someone likes rolls or basic nigiri, what is best for them is different than someone who simply sits and says 'I trust you chef, feed me.'
Like Mercurius said, Kihachi is omakase (the 'I trust you chef') in Columbus. And while the quality of the fish is top-notch, it is not all going to be sushi/sashimi.
Hama is some place where you can sit at the bar, chat with the chefs and get a better experience than if you mark what you want on the paper. They have some interesting stuff in small amounts and have done stuff like fry up fish bones for us.
Kikyo is another place for putting yourself in the chef's hands. If you ask for it, he has real wasabi. He also gets in very selected ingredients especially if he knows you are coming. Live scallops last time I was there. If the fish has good roe, he will do that. He can also do other styles of sushi that you don't normally see. He used to do an incredible monkfish liver dish, but was unhappy with the quality of the livers he was getting and stopped.
Last time we went into Haiku, we were overwhelmed by the stench of fish - the bad kind. Walked out.
If you like rolls and the like, then Kooma.

Actually Johnny at House of Japan will make you whatever the heck you want too. I do not like going there because you smell like hibachi when you leave... and just like everyone knows how I like poop stories, I hate to smell like food and smoke.
