There really aren't patios due a combination of space/property ownership and liquor laws. Here are a few I enjoy and I'm interested in finding some new ones to visit.
Basi Italia
Lindey's
Barcelona
The Worthington Inn
Brazenhead (both)
Grandview Cafe
Digger and Finch
The Patio/The Social
Novak's
Mezzo in Gahanna
+ for Basi Itali
Often forgotten is Club Diversity's backyard oasis. Three gazebos!
My faves...
Tip Top
La Fogata
Planks on High
Gresso's (but I echo the sentiment from last year about the garbage acoustic cover tunes. blarf)
Bodega
Basi
Barcelona
(although I haven't been to Basi or Barcelona in fuhevs)
Gaswerks
Brothers
Park St Patio
Lodge Bar - Love the view of the power sub station!
The little smoking area in front of Sugar
Basically anywhere I can show off my new Affliction Tee and Ed Hardy hat!
Sincerely, The Situation
Mine.
Holler.
Haiku
My own
Sure, there are some really nice patios, but for me the criteria for "favorite" has to do with whether I can reasonably expect to get a table on one! So here is my list of unspectacular patios where you can usually get a seat:
Flatiron
Brazenhead
La Chatelaine (Worthington)
That said, Basi and Barcelona patios are super nice.
Can anyone explain why Columbus has a terrible patio culture? Is there a city law/permitting process that we can lobby to change?
I just read an article about that. it was related to the cost of fees or permits. they changed the fees now to make it more affordable for businesses to have patios. I'll try to find it.

Cantina-even has porch swings!
Park Street Patio
The Social Room-rooftop patio is awesome.
Brazenhead Grandview
Digger & Finch
Grandview Cafe
Haiku
La Fogata

thanks for posting, that's great they changed the fees. $79 per seat is pretty ridiculous.
I also noticed that the Darby's patio at the Hyatt Capitol Square (State between 3rd & High) is now open for summer. It's HUGE and has lots of shade from a huge tree. The food/drink is nothing to speak of (it's just the outdoor branch of a hotel sports bar, after all), but definitely a great spot to meet friends after work downtown.
ETA: Darby's patio hosts a summer concert series and the line-up was just announced:
June 10 Conspiracy with Matt Munhall
June 17 MojoFlo with Francisco
June 24 John Schwab Party Band with Matt Munhall
July 1 The Randy's with Alex White
July 8 The Menus with Francisco
July 15 Floorwalkers with Bobby Huffman
July 22 The Ark Band with Alex White
July 29 Red Wanting Blue with Matt Munhall
August 5 New Orleans Funk Orchestra with Alex White
August 12 Reaganomics with Francisco Rojas
August 19 Swagg with Alex White
August 26 The Spikedrivers with Bobby Huffman
There are lots of cool patios in town but I have several favorite for many different reasons. Here’s my list:
Bar Louis (Easton and Arena District): Arena District has a great happy hour crowd and while the crowd isn’t the most social it’s still great for early evening people watching. Easton is smaller but has a great view of the Easton area and going-ons.
Due Amici: Not big but it’s the only restaurant (to my knowledge) with a true sidewalk café feel. It reminds me of NYC or Miami spaces; good upscale dishes served in the heart of the city. Very nice.
Basi Italia: a tucked away, hell it’s practically hidden, space that feels cozy and a little exclusive. A great patio for a date or just a nice meal with a group of friends.
Arlington Café: Okay, it’s in the ‘burbs and the place has a ‘reputation’, but they may have one of the coolest patios in the city. The patio is completely enclosed, like a hole in the middle of the bar. With the about a dozen large HD TVs and a full bar, it truly feels like you brought the outdoors inside. It’s truly a unique experience.
Bristol Bar: This bar feels exclusive and private like no other patio in the city. It feels like you can do whatever you want because the patio is invisible to the street or the rest of the bar for that matter. It’s like a private little oasis of a space.
Barcelona: Enough said. Just an around great patio.
If you ever make it to Delaware most (80+%) of the restaurants have patios.
Bristol Bar's patio is one of Columbus' best kept secrets.
Big fan of Basi and Barcelona downtown. Also stumbled upon Mezzo in Gahanna recently. Beautiful patio and scenery with a park right behind it to walk off the meal
I don't like barcelona's tables and chairs. uncomfortable.
arlington cafe really does have a great patio. I work right near it so we go to happy hour sometimes.
has anyone tried the cabo place on 33? I might go there tomorrow for happy hour to check it out.
