I've always wondered about Marino's - lived in grandview for years but was always too afraid to try it. I think I'll have to gather up some courage after reading all the praises.

I used to really love Old Bag of Nails fish and chips but the last time I went they had gone to an "all you can eat" deal which sounded great, but the quality seemed to have suffered. Just an off night, or have other people noticed this?

Just an off night, or have other people noticed this? The fish seemed ok, but was a bit on the oily side. They lost points on their prep with me. The "all you can eat" seems like a good deal, but unless you're really hungry, it's hard to eat that much fish.

For some reason I always think of Marino's on Sundays and get real disappointed, lol. It's delicious and the people that work there are always really nice. It reminds me of some of the small places in my hometown. Like time stands still in those buildings :)

I go by Marino's all the time too but haven't tried it. It's a universal truth that chips taste better when they're wrapped in paper and covered in salt and vinegar that comes out of a squeeze bottle. Nobody has time for shakers.

So many times last summer I was at home making guac only to get the call that there would be no tacos because it was Wednesday and every time I facepalmed like how could I forget AGAIN.
Totally agree about those girls! My aunt worked at a chicken place in high school and she said the same thing. I think it's more the grease smell than what you're frying that never goes away, lol.

I tried bag of nails again tonight. It was super busy (as you would expect) so I was hoping for some fresh fish. It was kind of chewy :( Taste was pretty good though.

Marino's has excellent fish. I'm not sure why anyone would be afraid to try it.
Their service is great, and so is their food.

When I was a little kid Arthur Treacher's was my favorite place to eat. I'd beg my mom to take me there all the time. There used to be one in the food court at (the old) Lane Avenue Mall, and of course 5th Ave.

Yeah I totally retract my recommendation of Old Bag of Crap since they went all you can eat. Claddagh is really yum though.

I judge Marino's on a different scale, because it is like fast food but way better. It is not a place i would expect the kind of quality they have, but they have it in spades.
I really have lost touch with what places besides Marino's provide the kick ass fish, so I am glad this thread exists so I can check these places out.

I was a fan of the fish and chips at The Pub at Polaris. It's been months since I went there, but it was a solid meal.

Fado is pretty damned good, despite being a pub-in-a-box chain.
