I've been listening to it online. I appreciated Senator Mary Landrieu's contribution.
ETA: At that, I'm amazed at the sheer volume of data. It brings me around to thinking about fillibustering pre-internet days. May explain the willingness on all sides to filibuster more these days.

I'm really curious about how long he will go and who will join (colloquy?)with him. I missed Sen Landrieu.

Agreed... he's still going pretty dang strong, that's for sure. It will be interesting to see if anyone else steps up - and what they add to the process.

There is always the threat of a fillibuster, but this is a flat out talk until you drop moment that isn't seen that often these days.

Sherrod Brown and Landrieau have been helping Bernie "Jefferson Smith" Sanders out.

I'm bad with politics, he keeps talking until when?

I'm bad with politics, he keeps talking until when? The record is Strom Thurmond at 24 hours and 8 minutes. I think in reality until there is no longer a quorum -- but if they don't add any other bills to the agenda it could be days. Can he talk 'til the end of session?

The vote isn't 'til Monday -- so for this to be an effective filibuster, he has to keep it up 'til then. What's the over under that Sherrod Brown joins in come Monday?

Just ended at 8 1/2 hours. Lookin' forward to watching this on Monday. CSpan2 has never been so exciting!

OK - so he broke/they broke it for the weekend? It's not over-over? It was a great thing to listen to at work today.

The fillibuster rules have changed since the days of Strom Thurmond when a fillibusterer had to be kept up continuously for hundreds of hours.
Sherrod Brown did join Sanders on the Senate floor Friday and fully supports stopping the Obama/Republican compromise.

Mary Landrieu will almost certainly support the tax give-aways on income over $250,000. She's practically a Republican but wanted to be on record that she's concerned about how the tax give-aways will explode the national debt.
We are currently finding out who really cares about the deficits and national debt. The Republicans and conserva-Dems who support the tax give-aways for the rich will soon turn around and claim that we must urgently cut social programs for the working and middle class after supporting trillions in tax give-aways for the wealthy and mega-corporations.

You're not going to marginalize what I have to say. Polling shows that 67% of the people do not support the extension of tax give-aways for rich people.
The Obama/Republican plan will cost trillions in the long run because those tax give-aways will almost certainly become permenent in 2012 if this compromise is passed. It's not so much about income tax give-aways but about tax rates on investment income and inheritance taxes. It also includes give-aways on corprate taxes.
You have posted here your disgust for Bush policies at CU, Core Models. Why would you support the same policies coming down from Obama?
The fact is that the extension of the Bush era tax cuts will further explode the national debt. The millionaire elites (both Dem and Repub) will soon be calling for austerity measures on the middle class (Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, school lunch programs, food stamps, etc). I promise you they are coming to take away the safety net.
Bottom line is this---if the Bush tax cuts and deregulation worked out so well, why did we end up in a recession surrounded by record breaking deficits because of it???

With your usual level of discourse he doesn't have to.
If the lame duck congress doesn't pass this tax package, then the next one will retroactively.
Given political realities, it looks like either everyone's tax rates stay the same or everyone's taxes go up.

Given political realities, it looks like either everyone's tax rates stay the same or everyone's taxes go up.Personally, I think everyone's tax cuts should go up some. We've been waging two wars for about 8 years and people need to understand that they have to be paid for at some point. Taxes are going to have to go up at some point anyways to pay off the national debt.
But it's not true that everyone's tax rates stay the same or everyone's taxes go up. Obama has the power of the veto. He could stand up for what he says he believes in and blame taxes going up on Republican obstructionism.
The Obama/Republican compromise is extremely regressive and will actually make taxes go up on the bottom one third of income earners.

Way to stick it to the Democratic base President Nafta (Clinton) and President Shafta (Obama).
btw, I don't expect President Obama or any politician to *win* on every issue. But I do expect them to fight the good fight and lay groundwork for the future. Obama should be going to Massachusetts and Maine regularly saying how the Republican senators there were obstructing the extension of middle class tax extensions and obstructing tax increases on tycoons.
I strongly suspect that the Citizens' United Supreme Court ruling is why Obama is timid at playing hardball when it comes to raising tycoon and corporate tax rates. Money has totally corrupted the political process. Obama doesn't understand that most of the CEO's and billionaire elites are going to go after him no matter what he does.

Right. Which would make taxes go up for everyone. He can blame republicans all he wants; he will anyway. That's worked great so far, eh?
Seems like it's either that, or all tax rates stay the same.

What are you talking about rus? Obama very rarely even says the word Republican. How can he be blaming someone he very rarely ever calls out?
FDR and Truman knew how to take on their political opponents. Obama should be giving speeches like FDR gave this speech in 1936:
"We had to struggle with the old enemies of peace: business and financial monopoly, speculation, reckless banking, class antagonism, sectionalism, war profiteering.
Republicans had begun to consider the Government of the United States as a mere appendage to their own affairs. We know now that Government by organized money is just as dangerous as Government by organized mob.
Never before in all our history have these forces been so united against one candidate as they stand today. They are unanimous in their hate for me – and I welcome their hatred."
