Stopped in to Whole Foods on West Lane yesterday. They are now selling draft beer via their own branded growlers! I beleive it was $3 for the growler and $5.99 for the beer. Not a bad option for anyone looking for draft beer in that neck of the woods. I think they had about 8 different beers on tap including local stuff like CBC and Elevator. Check it out!

Is there some new law or is this just a new trend? I hadn't been through the little sit-down area in the front side corner of the Brewery District Kroger in awhile but walked through the other day and noticed they have a little wine/beer bar in there.
Kinda weird...

I rarely go to Whole Foods, but I'm over there fairly often for Half Price Books. I'm going to have to make a side trip next time I'm on Lane.
And by next time, I might mean this evening ;-)

While breweries have been doing this for a while, other license holders are finding out that they can do it, too. Studio 35 and Park St. advertise it. My father used to fetch buckets (growlers) of beer for his dad from a local bar in the 40's. Those were the days...

I'm in. I'd love to know what options the Whole Foods at 161/Sawmill has. I may have to stop by today to check.

I really just want the growler. Super cool Ohio themed graphic on it. Saw one last night, swooned.

Walker, I'm not sure if it's a change in laws. The Whole Foods in TriBeca also has this set up only with locals only Brooklyn Lager brew. It just might be a new trend. They have a whole local brew section as well.

I don't think anything has changed as far as the law, but I'd say it's a lot of glass to store and you go through more beer at a reduced price. At least, this would be my guess on why Bodega doesn't use growlers. They're already going through the kegs pretty quickly.

"with any frequency" = my neighbor/friend used to bartend there.

it(hoster beer) was always around, so were the empty growlers. Hosters and Lucky's were around and we knew people working/running both, and this is when the Brewery district was hopping. I have some fond/foggy memories of those nights/days.

some good info on Growlers. http://www.barleysbrewing.com/growler.htm Got one from Whole Foods last night, went mostly flat pretty fast. they do fill it with a tube though. got one of the porters, think about $15 for the fill, $20 out the door with growler and tax.

I went to the Whole Foods at 161 & Sawmill and they said they didn't know what I was talking about. The guy in the beer section didn't even know what a freaking growler was.

(makes me feel better about the prices my overlords charge)

that sucks. I hate when that shit happens. At the Lane location the the growler taps are in the SE corner of the store, in the cheese/deli section. You'll see the brown growlers all piled on a display of cheese. Beer section is at the SW end of the store. i saw the growlers, but not the taps. so I walked to the beer section and asked someone and he led me back to the cheese. the had 4 or 5 taps (I think). Putting the taps there makes you want to buy cheese.
