I tried to go to Barrio last night (we called ahead and made a reservation since we had a Groupon) and the place was closed up! There were signs on the door that said something about doing some cleaning, then the person I was with checked his voice mail and realized he got a message from the restaurant. The message said they were under new management as of that afternoon (Wed. 06/13) and would be re-opening soon. The gentleman said if we had a Groupon it could be used at Two Fish or Black Olive, or we could wait for Barrio to re-open. I took that to mean the Dae-Oh group (Shoku, Two Fish, Black Olive) is now managing Barrio?

Huh. Well, hopefully they lower the prices a bit. The food was awesome but $14 for a 4 bite steak in coffee sauce? Come on now.
Btw, has anyone tried the brunch menu? (assuming it stays) I've been meaning to give it a whirl.

Not surprised, like others I had a horrible experience there. Dont bother with your groupon, the staff almost refused to take my groupon when we ate at barrio. I had to pull out my phone to show him the terms of the deal because the server refused to listen to anything I had to say. One my worst dining experiences ever.

hope they don't change too much

I hope the service changes...
I work close so I really want to like this place and give them chance after chance despite a bad service experience just about every time.Posted 11 months ago # -
Hopefully a lot changes. The food was OK but definitely not worth the high prices and not something I ever found myself craving again even if the prices were better. I didn't have any problems with the service, but I've never been there during a crowded time.

Funny thing is neither have I, when we were there during the day, we would sometimes be the only ones there and service was still spotty.
And I agree on the menu, could use a total make over, there were a few good things there but nothing very memorable.Posted 11 months ago # -
Barrio really needed a redo, I am glad the management has changed. Interesting concept but very poorly implemented.

Not surprised at all by their closing; Actually, I am surprised it lasted this long. I've been watching them since they started remodeling the building, they spent a ton of money revamping it that would have been better spent on customer service training for the staff. Poor service, mediocre food and overpriced, the only thing that looked appealing was the bar, but I never got a chance to sample it.

^^very overpriced. I ordered a piece of steak with some kind of coffee sauce, which was delicious, BUT cost $14. It was about four bites. Fries were $5 and were reminiscent of Applebee's. Food was good. Prices were not.

Another Dae-Oh restaurant? Ugh. I always had great meals and service at Barrio. Loved their food as opposed to any of the Dae-Oh restaurants.

Can't say I am familiar with the Dae-Oh restaurants. I know it is heresy to suggest that that not every restaurant needs to be an unique, trendy, concept driven spot. There is room for all kinds of restaurants, and despite the deliberate effort to expel all of the chain fast food restaurants from downtown, a burger place would make a killing there at lunch time; with all of the workers from Nationwide, BWC and Dept of Health..among others

I really like Two Fish, but have not had the best experiences at the other Dae Oh restaurants.
Here's hoping they can turn Barrio into a winner. Great location.

At some point though, all of the chain fast food restaurants disappeared from downtown, including the McD's inside Nationwide which also was always busy

But it could have still been closed by corporate as being an "underperforming" store as it was deemed not profitable enough compared to other stores and possibly not cost effective to renovate.

So that being said, I agree that an affordable non-chain fast food type lunch option in Barrio's location would probably do well during lunch hours. Would take something a little more special to be a draw at night or on weekends... but the demand can be generated if all the other places mentioned are any indication.

Probably shouldn't forget to mention Subway. It seems like you can't stand anywhere downtown without being in site of at least one of them.
