I was working late last night and me and a friend were going to stop by Barrio for a drink after work around 7pm but all of the lights were off and it appeared closed. Are they out of business? Or just closed that particular day?

What do you order there? I was not very impressed with my meal the time I went.

I love the pickled corn and poblano chowder. Sweet, sour and spicy and perfect on subzero, snowy days!

Make sure you get the bacon-wrapped dates too. Those are awesome. Seriously, just do it. You won't regret it.
And the french fries are amazing... they are garlic fries, made with real bits of minced garlic, and this wonderful sauce. Yum.
The last time I was there, my friend got the roasted chicken, and I thought that her plate looked pretty great. I know roasted chicken isn't super cutting edge, but it tasted wonderful... moist and perfectly cooked.

I LOVED barrio when it first opened, I even had my birthday there this summer (nicely coordinated by Travis!). I am also glad they are open on Sundays, a rarity for Columbus restaurants it seems! However, the past few times I was there I was quite disappointed. They hadnt changed their menu (even seasonally) and everything got smaller and a little more bland. Not saying that I wont give it another try, but I hope they can return to their previous standards.

I'm the opposite. I didn't love Barrio when it first opened. I thought it looked great and liked grabbing a drink there, but wasn't blown away by the food. I am now blown away by the food. I would assume a Monday closure is just a winter hours thing caused by the fact that they are a bit of an island and many restaurants close on Monday anyhow. I wouldn't read much into it beyond that and would guess a 7 day calendar come spring...

Speaking of Barrio, make sure you come check me out this and next Sunday when I'll be filling on for DJ Trevor, broadcasting live on CD101 from there.

At our visit, we ordered one of the french fries and they were AMAZING. So we ordered a second batch - and they were so-so. The second batch was overloaded with raw garlic.
I tried the bacon wrapped dates, and they didn't do it for me.
I wonder if part of my problem is that I went on a food-loving-adventure to Barcelona this summer, and I wanted it to be as good as everything I ate there. It just didn't cut it.
I don't remember seeing a crab empanada when I was there (November). I did have a piquillo pepper and mushroom empanada that was pretty good, and another one that was bland. (can't remember what it was though - must've been really bland)
I am willing to give it another chance, and I will specifically look for that poblano soup. I love anything with poblanos.Posted 2 years ago # -
I hope this is a "we're doing well enough we don't need to stay open every day" move rather than a "this is the first step to severely limited hours, eventually leading to a full shutdown."
Barrio did change their menu in November - I know because gone was the ceviche sampler I grew so fond of. It's not exactly "seasonal," but the ingredients aren't exactly local either so I let them off the hook.

Barrio has never let us down yet! Love the decor, those long timber log tables are beautiful!
The crab empanada is a must! (the beef and bean is also very good)
Those garlic fries are pretty wicked too.
They do a grilled calamari "steak" that was in interesting spin on an often under appreciated appetizer.Posted 2 years ago #
