I noticed that Foodie Cart will be at St James tonight for their keg tapping party and they are close enough to easily check out both.
"we will be at st. james tavern tonight from 6pm-10pm! 1057 n 4th st. cask tapping w/thirsty dog & bells brewing starts at approx. 5:30pm. see you tonight!!"
St. James + Foodie Cart = win!
Peeked through the window last night while driving by. Looking great- can't wait to stop in!
Cant make it tonight, but I can't wait to see the reviews. (and the rants from people annoyed about the place for their own very special reasons.)
For those of you familiar with that area, what's the best method or location of parking (in other words, safest for personal being and vehicle)?
Does St. James have a beer engine now or just pop a tap into the cask?
You can park in the lock shop lot right across from the new bar. Orrrrrr you can park on the streets around the SJT. I live on 4th between summit and 4th st and there's usually parking on that block...it's smack in the middle of the two. My car is always fine. :)

Yeah, that event is posted over here:

Sorry...first question was for Bar l'Entranger. I know it's not in the best area so I'd want to make sure our vehicles and ourselves are safe.
You're maybe too close to SJT...why even have beer at home??

When visiting Bristol in the past I've always been able to easily find an on-street spot along Summit within a block of 5th Avenue. Summit is a pretty busy street, so pretty safe at night. I've never had any problem with car being broken into (knock on wood) or any other problems around there, but I'd probably avoid parking on side streets or dimly lit alleys.

We tap into the casks. It is more fun that way! :D I am considering getting an engine. These monthly parties have been so successful, I figure if it ain't broken why fix it though. Having a cask on all the time just might not be feasable in a place that does the small volume I do. If the demand& crowds increase though- I will change my mind. ;)
As far as parking goes, we have a small lot on Detroit. As with anywhere though street parking is plenty& it is "usually" safe.
Hope to see you out tonight!

Yeah...that's what I meant...there's a lock shop across the street from L'etranger. They always allowed bristol parking there. It's visible from the front windows of the bar...just across the street on 5th. My street (4th ave) is just one street over. You'll have zero problems walking the one street if you need to park on 4th. If you stay south of L'etranger, you'll feel totally fine. And my block that I mentioned before is really nice and full of nosy neighbors with beemers and audis and acuras, so again feel free to park there if you want. You can PM me your make and model of your car and I can stand menacingly beside it if you pay me in beer. :)
Thanks for the info!
Hilarious, osulew.
SJT, makes sense. Don't ruin a good thing. I've not been able to make it to any tapping parties (and assume it's crazy busy), but make it other times for some draft craft (really enjoyed the Sofie last time) or your fine bourbon.
I'll go... But only if I can get my properly equipped Team Fortress 2 Spy costume ready in time #jokesthatonly5peopleget

When parking ANYPLACE in the Short North/ Italian Village area, please observe city rules and do not leave any valuables visible in your car. This includes cigarettes, loose change, CDs, etc. There are career criminals who make a regular practice of casing cars in the area. Keep your valuable out of sight and your car will be fine.
Stopped by tonight. Was actually the first paying customer through the door. ;)
Great renovation of the old Bristol space. Nearly everything has been resurfaced and the decor is much more intricate where Bristol was more modern and minimalistic.
The furniture added is comfy, lighting is intimate, music is low key and lounge-friendly, and the drink menu is pretty expansive. I had an OYO Manhattan.
Something else that you might not notice at first, but the addition of all of the upholstered furniture and rugs has acted as a major echo dampener. One minor issue I always had with Bristol is that the sparse decor left a lot of echo that made it sometimes hard to have a conversation over the music and noise of other people talking. That problem is completely gone and it's extremely easy to relax and chat with friends here without the need to shout at someone three feet in front of you.
Anyway, good stuff. Will definitely be back.
Only had time to snag one iphone photo:
OYO Manhattan? Vodka Manhattan seems like a criminal offense to me.
Buuuuut, the rest of your mini review seems like the place was cool. I'll have to perhaps wander down next week and see what's up...since I can practically see the joint from my front door and all. :)

A.
I'm still skeptical of those crazy clear boozes, but if you say so Mr. Hall, I shall believe.
