And they danced happily ever after: BalletMet’s Cinderella
Romance and humor combine in this classic fairytale for Valentines of all ages
COLUMBUS, OHâ€â€The slipper fits in BalletMet Columbus’ Cinderella, Feb. 4 – 13, 2011, at the Capitol Theatre, 77 S. High St. The romantic fairytale is a special treat for the whole family. With a touch of magic from her fairy godmother, Cinderella bests her hilariously wicked stepsisters to win the heart of her charming prince. This Valentine’s season, opulent scenery and costumes, enchanting classical ballet and virtuoso performances will make audiences believe in happily ever after.
Cinderella is a delightful recipe of storytelling, humor and all the splendor one expects from classical ballet. Choreographed by BalletMet Artistic Director Gerard Charles, it features the expressive artistry of BalletMet’s dancers, picturesque scenery and costumes, and a score by Alexander Glazunov and arranged by BalletMet Music Director Mikhail Popov. Several student dancers from the BalletMet Dance Academy also take the stage alongside the professional company as mice and moving clockworks. Debuted in 2002 and last presented in 2005, Cinderella is a collaboration between Charles and theater artist Robert Post, the creative minds behind BalletMet’s The Nutcracker. Post added comedic touches to the production, particularly in the character development of the uproarious stepfamily.
“The production draws greatly upon my experiences of English pantomimes, traditional family holiday entertainments that are a wonderful mixture of a play with songs, comedy and some very traditional set numbers,†Charles said. “Also, I have been greatly influenced by the beautiful music and the classical ballet traditions that I grew up with in England.â€Â

Cinderella performance schedule is as follows: 8pm Friday, Feb. 4; 2pm & 8pm Saturday, Feb. 5; 1pm & 5:30pm Sunday, Feb. 6; 7:30pm Thursday, Feb. 10; 8pm Friday, Feb. 11; 2pm & 8pm Saturday, Feb. 12; 2pm Sunday, Feb. 13. Discount coupons are available at all Central Ohio Kroger stores. College students with ID can purchase $15 Student Rush tickets at the theater beginning two hours prior to show time. Students age 13 to 18 can purchase $5 High Five vouchers at any Central Ohio Kroger Ticketmaster location.
