Is it just me, or is everyone getting married??? I'm a bridesmaid in 3 weddings this summer and the shower and bachelorette party planning is underway. I want to be creative with them but have no idea where to start. I'd love some suggestions about restaurants that don't mind a slightly louder group and after dinner activities. CU never fails me. Please help! :)

"Bachelorette Party at the Big Bang" sounds like an... interesting... movie title...
Just sayin.

Just sayin.Yeah, well...
The good thing is we're in Columbus and there is no shortage of places. That one just came to mind-despite the God-awful Guinness pours-since it's so loud to begin with.

Here goes another self-serving plug. We would be glad to host your group up in Worthington.
We have a collection of businesses together in the same plaza called the Old Worthington Quarter. We put together packages for girls-night-out groups several times a week. You can have some food and adult beverages brought to The Candle Lab and pour candles while you eat and drink. The candles take an hour to set up, so you can head next door to House Wine for a personalized wine tasting and more food.
I know pouring candles and tasting wine doesn't sound too crazy, but we have hosted several bachelorette parties, and they can get as crazy as you want to be. Feel free to stop in or give me a call at 614-433-9900 and I can help you put together a very memorable evening.

Please help! :)I have been in too many weddings in the last 5 years and finally married off all my friends, so I am far too experienced at all this crap. I have been to bachelorette parties at Big Bang and it's not bad. They make all the brides get up on stage and sing and dance suggestively. You have to tip them a fair amount to get your friend on stage and get her choice of songs sung. Just be aware that they charge a lot to reserve a table, and you won't be able to get a big table unless you reserve or show up super early (we're talking like 6 pm on a weekend). It can be a bit pricey unless you've got a lot of people contributing.
For another friend we did dinner at Bucca, then dancing at Park Street and Sugar. It was fun. They made us all get up on the bar and dance at Park Street (and I am not a dance on the bar kinda girl). The band there that night was fun and also made much of our bachelorette and the others in the place. For showers, we had a really really great one at Biddies Coach House in Dublin. I can't say enough nice things about those ladies. We did a Saturday afternoon lunch of High Tea. The food was lovely, the setting was perfect and the price was reasonable. Everyone said that it was just the nicest shower they'd ever been to.
ETA: Just saw Candle Lab's response and that sounds great to me. I almost wish I had more friends to marry off ;-)

^ Just be aware that Bucca is a family style place. Expect to split the bill and some food. Good food, was just a bit awkward when you go out for friends and are the odd single guy out.

I believe the other girls went out to Martini Park after the show, but I took my old bones home.
The Candle Lab idea sounds really neat. I also think that Surly Girl would be a fun place to have dinner, followed by dancing at Bristol or Axis.Posted 1 year ago # -
Arena District is Bachelorette Party Central apparantly, for after-dinner bedlam, or whatever women do at a bachelorette party.

If you'll suffer me a plug as well.
Custom t-shirts can add something fun to a party.
We can usually do them on the spot in clintonville provided
you've got the art or text ready!or design them online at skreened.com and pick em up!

If driving were an option for me, I would avoid it more.

I did a party for a friend of mine - we started off with a wine tasting at Camelot Cellars in the short north - it was really awesome. I was allowed to bring in food (I brought in accompanying cheese courses) and we had the back area to ourselves. The owners poured maybe 10-12 wines for us, talking a lot about each and they were VERY nice. The pours were quite large and some of the wines were rather pricey by the bottle so it was a good value (I want to say it was like $10 a person which was cheap enough that I could pay for everyone). The tasting lasted maybe an hour and a half or 2 hours and it was a great way to start off. YOu could then walk around to any restaurant/bar in the short north and not worry about driving (which is what we did).

I agree that the Big Bang would be fun. I have a bachelorette party coming up at Dolphin Dance on Main St. (downtown). They host pole dancing parties/classes. Here is their website: http://www.dolphindanceexotic.com I would also suggest renting a party bus. We used the Bexley Beat for my bachelorette party and my sister's. It was very reasonable and you can bring a cooler with your beverages on board. Here is their website: http://www.bexleybeat.com Another fun bachelorette party location is the Funny Bone. They even give the bachelorette a t-shirt that says "I got boned at my bachelorette party" :-).

I've never understood bachelor/bachelorette parties. I'm not sure how it was back in the 60/70/80's but recently when I see big groups of people out (usually girls) they purposely try to be as loud and obnoxious as possible while doing things they would never do if their fiancé was there (ex. Having strangers eat candy off them, dance on bars while creepy guys look up their skirt – yes this happens a lot). Why would anyone want to start a marriage off that way? If that’s what you still want, why are you getting married in the first place? And I don’t want this to come off as me knocking bachelorette parties, I know bachelor parties are just as bad (and worse in a lot of cases). People wonder why the divorce rate in America is so high; I’m sure starting your marriage off having to lie about your bachelor/bachelorette party doesn’t help.
Anyway, sorry for the rant, as for the question at hand …. The Candle Lab idea seems great! For girls, I’ve also been a fan of spa days followed by a party room dinner downtown (possibly Latitude 41). For drinks afterwards, I’ll always throw out 185 … my favorite bar in Columbus.
BTW … for my bachelor party I plan on a golf trip weekend with the guys.

candle lab/ house wine is awesome. There is a great place next door to canlde lab that does spa parties too. I highly recommend all three.
You can also make your own wine at Camelot which is fun and you can do a customized label too. I hosted a party at Dolphin Dance and it was so much fun despite the fact we were all clumsy.
Marcellas isn't my favorite place to eat but it is good for big groups and already loud so you won't really disturb anyone. The Brazenhead and Grandview will block off their back room in the basement too. Great place for couples showers.

It was fun without being the least bit tacky. I think that your ideas, Candle Lab and Camelot are classy and sound like a lot of fun. IMO, the party should be a celebration for the person getting married and a fun send off into married life, not a hot mess.

If you are trying to be a bit unique, rather than Shadowbox, what about Mad Lab? You could potentially save much money by doing a light meal at home and making it a theme. However, even for the lasses, I feel all themes should involve copious amounts of alcohol and a scantily clad dancer (solely for the kitch and following the theme, of course.) Tiki theme maybe? I'd also argue that all good bachelorette parties end at St. James. I'd also argue if you are trying to be unique, avoid the Arena District like the gaping syphilitic ulcer that it is.
One of my oldest friends is getting married this summer and we are renting a house boat on Lake Cumberland for the bachelor party.

We did karaoke at Otani's for my bachelorette party; another fun karaoke alternative would be to rent a room at momo2. Both places have booze; momo2 would be better if you want to make it more of a private party.
