in summary:
I donly care what you say--I thought it was awesome! It's my new fave.
great special effects
100% formulaic and predictable.
But still a lot of fun
I'm not going to spoil it but it's interesting the new standards since Alien.
1) Military is always the bad guys
2) If it's a big alien, you need segoirney weaver
3) When it gets intense, the most attractive female must strip down to her underwear and show more anatomy as the show goes on. In the end wearing a skimpy semi see through outfit that makes no sense.
Number 3 was set as a standard with 1 million BC.

Because it's just makes sense to fly an attack copter in a thin undershirt ripped halfway down the front
All the chatter and reviews around Avatar's storyline set my expectations really low.
I found there was story depth in a Rorschach kind of way if you were looking for it.
The ripped undershirt didn't bother me.. :)
that helicopter pilot is smoking hot,i didnt mind the torn shirt action at all.
i rented Blue Crush just to check her out.lol
she was also in the second Alien flick.
the movie looks horrible and i have no desire to check it out. never really been a big fan of CGI flicks and predictable story lines.

not that Rodriguez is typecast or anything

I mean she just evidently has a limited wardrobe

I think most of her tanktops on LOST were black.

So there's some variety for ya. ;)
I recently heard this film referred to as "Dances With Smurfs"
I LOLed
ahhem, OK, I'm off topic
I should start one named hot, muscle chicks in tank tops if I want to continue.
OK, OK
I'll be serious
OK
Here is my review of Avatar in a sentance:
James Cameron OscarBaits to the audiance and spews CGI all over the screen.
Sounds like some people are a little proud that they just finished Critical Thinking 101 with a B+. Ready to bravely take on all the simple battles eh?
Of course the movie has a fifth-grade level eco-friendly/noble savage message that anyone who didn't fail CT101 could fish out in the first five minutes. If that ruined one of the more visually beautiful films ever made for you, then I'm really really sorry you never moved on to CT102 which explains why CT101 is all bullshit.
(Or you didn't get a chance to see it in imax 3D...which totally ruled by the way)
Let me guess. Same basic storyline as Dances With Wolves & The Last Samurai? That's the gist I got from the previews. I'm going to see it tomorrow anyway.
It's a movie that cost $200 - $300 million to make. Unfortunately a story with too much depth would have missed the
mass market, been difficult to localize for international audiences and would have resulted in financial suicide.
