Autism Society of Ohio looking for volunteers (Central Ohio)
Are You Looking to Get Involved? Volunteer for the Autism Society of Ohio!
The mission of the Autism Society of Ohio (ASO) is to improve the lives of all affected by autism in Ohio. The ASO includes persons with autism, families, and professionals working together to improve services and support at the state level.
What is Autism?
Autism is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life and affects a person's ability to communicate and interact with others. Autism is defined by a certain set of behaviors and is a "spectrum disorder" that affects individuals differently and to varying degrees. There is no known single cause for autism, but increased awareness and funding can help families today. The CDC recently reported that 1 in 88 children have some form of Autism. Help us provide support service to families across Central Ohio.
We are looking for volunteers to help us in a variety of areas. We need help with any of the following:
Community Ambassadors: Help provide resources and promote autism awareness.
Special Events: Man our "resource table" at conferences, health fairs, walks, basketball games,etc.,
Become a committee member for one of our great upcoming events:
* Adult Lock-In (Oct 2012) --> special need for bands, cartoonists, djs and other entertainment for this afterhours party at Dave & Busters Hilliard (12midnight to 5am)
* Puzzle Tournament (Jan 2013)
* Coaches Breakfast (April 2013)
* Evening Out for Autism (April 2013)
* or Ride Across Ohio for Autism (June2013) --> 300-mile bike tour around Ohio
You can volunteer according to your interests and skill and for as much time as you are able to donate. You will also have the satisfaction of knowing your efforts will help to improve the lives of all affected by autism in Ohio.
