When it comes to frameing art, what are the best resources in Columbus? I'd love to support a local owned business for my framing needs.
I've had some artwork framed by Hobby Lobby over in Sawmill a while ago. They did a good job. I had no base for comparison though. They made the custom frames, did the matting, and used some kind of protective UV poly-glass material.
All said and done, it cost between $65 and $100 per art print. Sizes ranging from 12"x"12" and 20"x24"... Fair price? I don't know.
I'd love to hear some of your experiences before I have more work done.

There is a place on Henderson Rd (in the Kroger plaza) where you do the work yourself and it costs less. A decent selecton of frames, nice staff.
Frame Station, that's the name.
Been lazy lately and had it done at Michael's. A better option would be nice.

Jeez Louise, guys, I'm living with one of the best framers I've ever seen. His name is Ryan and he works over at Gregg Frame in Bexley.
I mean, the shop is on the high side pricewise but I'll just say it's for one of my friends.
Framing, in my opinion, is an art in itself.

I worked at the Frame Station on Henderson for a while and I can assure you that the owner is awesome!
I know most of the time people have bad things to say about their old bosses but she is the best.
Since leaving my job their to start my own business, she has helped me with many things along the way. She donated money to Agora out of her wanting to help the arts despite being a small shop.
Her work is meticulous and she has a good eye for putting things together. She also isn't afraid of challenging framing projects.
I have nothing but good things to say about that shop.

No problem. It was a good question. Framing is important. For many reasons.
Wasting money at Michaels is sad. They make you think it is cheaper... but it really isn't. 50% coupons are a joke.

Jo Ann fabric up at Polaris runs a half off sale practically constantly.
Right now though, I'm trying to jimmy my own frames, as buying them is just expensive :p

I can assure you... that the %50 off sales are not good offers. I know it sounds good.. but the way they offer it so cheap is by marking up retail by controlling the market... then saying that they can offer %50 percent back down to what it was at a normal shop.
The people working with your stuff are often the regular Jo-Ann's or Michaels workers with little training....
.. smaller frame shops normally have at least one truly experienced person working there.
Melinda at the Frame Station has been framing for over 25 years. She has employees that are trained to her specifications.
I know I sound like a panderer. But I love when people take care of their artwork... and I hate to see them treat it like they are buying toilet paper at Walmart.
Take care of your art.
(Ms.Mighty... I also like the fact that you are doing your own frames.... I think every good artist should take those matters into their own hands.... )

Go to the Framing Station.
If you have to go to Michael's go during a 50% off time and go to the Easton Market store. Ask for Brandon, who is the department manager, he has done a great job with a few unique things that I have thrown his way. He was recommended to me by a friend and really did a great job.

thought i would update this thread.
i went to the Frame Station in Grandview based on the recommendation of this thread. they were easily the lowest estimate of 3 i received.
but an important FYI, the Henderson location is now closed. so head to the location on 5th Ave. in Grandview
