Way too many competitors in that racket.
Afraid you business might be losing it's "buzz"? IPO it and let a bunch of people you've never met worry about it!
Anyone want to buy my shares of Groupon for 50% off?
(the obvious joke)
Google’s daily deal goes live in Columbus

Google’s answer to Groupon was unleashed in Columbus yesterday, adding another competitor in the increasingly crowded deal-a-day business.

Google will probably squeeze out a lot of the smaller local competition. I see this as similar to when Blockbuster Video killed the mom & pops in the VHS days. It comes down to who has the most resources and leverage.
Personally, I have mixed feelings on the value imparted by this form of advertising.
What's Blockbuster? ;)
Anyway, I don't think there's a whole lot of local competition in this space to begin with. Several local businesses have started in this space and already closed up shop, or have merged.
How many local deal of the day businesses are still around?
I still get daily Faveroo updates in my email. (embarassed)
Wife tried to redeem a massage deal from Living Social. The location told her that in order to redeem it, she would have to pay a $25 service fee. lol no.

Why embarrassed?
I think my mindset of these sites has changed over time. Getting daily deal updates of stuff I do not really need kind of feels embarassing with the economy the way it is. Getting 50% off of most of the stuff advertised is less about being frugal and more about conspicuous consumption.
Yeah, there does seem to be an overall shift from cooler stuff like restaurants to less-cool and more functional stuff like oil changes and house cleaning services.
No one really gets excited when the new JB Dollar Stretcher is sitting on their front porch, do they? ;)
New market segment for Nationwide?
The guidance means Groupon Inc. expects revenue to grow by about 5 percent in the first three months of this year, compared with the last three months of 2011. By that same measure, revenue grew by a double-digit percentage in each quarter of 2011. That suggests growth is slowing down, said Collins Stewart analyst Mayuresh Masurekar.Groupon's growth from signing up more subscribers and adding to its list of merchants is slowing, Masurekar said in a note to investors.
Chicago-based Groupon is expanding abroad, sending subscribers coupons personalized to their tastes and offering new types of deals, but growth from those initiatives may not be enough to counteract its slowing daily-deals business, Masurekar said.
Facebook with ~3000 employees and clears 1b in profit vs Groupon with ~10000 employees and loses ~45m. See the problem here?
