You guys know I generally don't need a holiday to make an ass of myself, but I suppose it's as good an excuse as any! This April 1st, we're going to tear the Brewery District a new asshole with the very first dance event that CBR's has ever seen!
We've got an All-Star HOUSE lineup including demure southern gal DJ Sayaw (Brant Abinosa), ace stuntman Aaron Beckett, Jamaican bobsledder Code Blue (Sean Robertson), and of course the massive ego of Simon Nelson (yours truly), if we can fit it in the door.
This event is 18+, so no worries about finding a babysitter; just strap the kids into the car and come on down! CBR's is conveniently located behind CD101/Empire at 503 South Front Street - I'll post a map later for those of you who are as bad with directions as I am (hell, I'm lost right now).
There will be a small Five Dollar cover, and Brant may also try to con you into buying some swampland in Florida. Just tell him you know the D.A. and he'll leave you alone. :)
We're gonna shake the place down to its foundations with this one, so make sure to be there!
ALSO, remember to come down to Carlile on Thursday March 23rd, as I'll be tag-teaming with legendary big game hunter and award-winning novelist Jeffrey Collins; we're going to beat everyone down with some HOUSE MUSIC and then he'll have a book signing and tell us of his adventures deep in the Congo. Not to be missed!

The first? There's been dance events there before, just not recently.
Anyway, not trying to knock your event. Sounds like a good time and I'm glad to see more things happening on the much neglected south side of town. 8)

yeah, 4cast had a party there last september... we had an ok crowd early, but (here's the word of caution) everyone left when the drink special was over (11pm). so either lock the doors when the special's over or just get good prices on something for the whole night. and don't bet on any foot traffic.
it was definitely a blast playing whatever we wanted on the system; chuck's a good guy & i wish you all luck. i'd go but i'll be outta town.

Well, we'll be bringing a decent crowd on our own for this so that shouldn't be too big of an issue. I'll definitely see what I can do about cheap drinks, though.

I'll see what I can do to come down. It's gallery hop night and I've gotta hang out at the gallery I show with as it's their last show.

A lot of us will be tag-teaming and jumping on and off the turntables as the flow of the night dictates - but yeah, we're keeping the set times pretty short and just banging it out all night. We're definitely going for an old fashioned no-holds-barred party atmosphere.
As for the DJs not getting that much time, we're all gonna be there mainly to party and have a great time. We'll (of course) be holding an afterhours over here as well, which I suspect will go well into Sunday afternoon. So yeah, we'll all have plenty of time to play throughout the night. ;)

Turnout wasn't what we'd hoped... not bad for our first real event in Columbus, but I definitely would have expected more in any other major city. That's a whole different can of worms though, so I'll save that rant for a different thread. :)
I'd definitely like to give our next event a more tag-team vibe. Most of the DJs wanted to do sets tonight which is cool, but it definitely lacked a bit of the energy we have when we're all tag-teaming and feeding off each others' vibe. I'd definitely rather do a tag-team thing when we have the whole crew playing.
The afterhours was rockin. Majik got lost for a few minutes with our sound (lesson of the night: don't give your Mackie to a guy who obviously has no idea where he's going), but once that was sorted out the floor down there was churning all night. :)

Speaking from experience as someone who has tried to throw parties in the Brewery District in the last 2 years.... don't expect a ton of turnout right now. The area has everything going for it to be jumping once again maybe in another year, but as for right now, there's just no way to draw people in mass there. Especially not on a gallery hop night. :shock:

The afterhours was rockin.
The night presented a parade of House DJs. Turnout was low due to the fact that the bar is hard to find and due to cover charge. Still I had good time as what I care most in a club are clean beats and good DJs - and there was no shortage of that. Those that came had a chance to grab Simon Nelson's CD. Though tracks are a bit more monotone then I like, I found some really cool gems on it, such as weaving ethnic (indian) tunes on track 8, and uplifting beats on track 14.
After hours were super. These guys know how to ROCK!
