Hi All,
Does anyone have a good place to suggest that has a good selection of apparel/fashion fabrics (besides JoAnn Fabrics)?
Thanks,
Alinda

How about New York City?
Sorry to be snarky. If you are looking for something beyond cotton prints, I don't think there is much to be found in town. There used to be a store on Henderson that carried high-end wools, but that shop closed many years ago. If you are looking for nice wools, linens, silks, or nice blends of any of these three, you'll have to go outside of Columbus. And now that Baer Fabrics in Louisville is closed...I think you'll have to go a long way. Good luck.
I have heard good things about sew to speak but haven't been in myself yet. Beyond that, lilbit is right, save up and shop next time your in a bigger city.
sew to speak can order anything too. meant to add that but had to go to a kid emergency (screaming little banshee couldn't reach the Cinnamon Life)
In the past I generally went to Fabric Farms which used to be on Riverside Drive across from Grigg's Reservoir. The other place I really liked was Hancock Fabrics that used to be at Henderson and Gettysburg, across from the Kroger. Both of these outlets closed, but I have wondered if they still might be in business either in another part of town or otherwise close by like in Dayton, Springfield, Marion, or the like. JoAnn's always seemed a bit cheesy, but those other two, although more expensive, had some pretty good quality fabric making it well worth the price.
Thank you everyone; I will check out Sew to Speak.
flights to new york are currently $50 one-way on southwest, so i'd go there for fashion district buys, or look for cheap flights to la.
Ok this is just for homework and I just need swatches. I am not sewing a collection yet LOL.
There is a place on Third, over by where they are building the new Gradview Yard that is always has a sign that says fabrics for $2.50 a yard -- not sure what the fabrics are, have never stopped in...

I think it's a curtain place so it wouldn't have fabric for making clothes.
Sew to Speak is one of my first choices a little pricey but VERY high quality and Like AmyD said she can order.
I tend to default to Joann's a lot though for the wide variety
Also that Place in Grandview is all upholstery fabrics which can work but depends on what you are doing and you'd want to wash the fabric first to get the starch and finishes off.
Online I order a lot from House of Spandex and Spandex world (For my lingerie)
Renaissance fabrics has a huge selection of high quality wool also online
Then for online silk I go to Silk international )the website looks weird and their ordering is not normal, but it is high quality again and fast shipping)
Then there is always Mood and Vogue Fabrics online and they will send you free swatches sometimes before you outright buy the fabrics.
Joanne's usually won't let you get swatches so you would have much better luck online. Actually I don't know anyplace locally anymore that does offer swatches. Usually you have to purchase 1/8 of a yard.
I'm sitting on a huge stash of various fabrics here at the house.
listen to tornangel. it's a new kind of mantra.
Thanks tornangel012; if I had more time I would have ordered from Mood. I didn't have time to wait for the swatches to be mailed so I needed a place in town.
I liked Sew to Speak, they had good quality fabrics that were solid. Currently, I am not allowed to use patterned fabrics for my homework. I found cotton voile (4 different colors on sale), wool felt, bamboo jersey, cotton denim, cotton corduroy, etc. She gave me my first 5 swatches free (smaller ones). Then after that the cost depended on the type of fabric and I got a whole 1/8 of a yard.
I don't think I will ever be going back to JoAnn's; I went there for my first project and could only find one random silk dupioni that I liked and the rest were polyester or cottons for quilting. I spent $80 on crap LOL. No free swatches.
