Anyone have a setup utilizing equipment like final scratch, or the pioneer cdj-1000, cdj-800 or dmp-555? I've read all about final scratch and it sounds super cool with such DJ's as Ritchie Hawtin pioneering its use. I've yet to see it in action though. I have seen the cdj-1000 and must say it is a sweet piece of equipment. It is almost a "digitial turntable". The cdj-800 and dmp-555 are newer and I haven't seen either yet. Just curious if anyone has had any experiences with this equipment.....

I spent about 2 hours in Sound Ideas about a month ago playing with the Pioneer CDJ-1000's and the Pioneer CMX -3000... they are both sweet as hell!! I have wanna-be Gemini Cd players that freak out on me all the time. I need a get rich scheme to dish out the 2grand for a sweet pioneer setup.

I'm really itching to try out Denon's DN-5000. I love competition because it makes products better. I sure hope Denon's new baby will give Pioneer's CDJ1000 a run for it's money!
For a long time I was planning on picking up a pair of CDJ1000s, but now that there's stiff competition, I'm curious to see where the technology will go.

Six years later....Pioneer cdj-1000 is still the cd turntable by which all others are judged.
Interesting.

Most of the guys I know use Traktor these days as it integrates with Abelton Live. I've also played around a bit with Serrato Scratch and it was pretty cool, and fairly solid with the setup I was playing on..
As much as I like DJing with vinyl, if I was a paid DJ, I'd probably move to one of those and never look back just from the standpoint of never having to carry a record crate around again..
I've played with Pioneer CDJs before (years ago) and didn't really care for the interface..

yeah, I'm a big Serato fan

I have Pioneer CDJ-800's and they are nice. I like the 1000's better (the tempo control slide has a better feel to it) but the 800's were more cost effective.
Of the computer based stuff, I have only used Serato and I loved it. It is extremely user friendly. You just drag and drop the track into the "channel" you want it in; and I love the fact that you can use the classic turntables and just drop the needle into anywhere in the digital track (that's my only complaint about CDJ's). I did a DJ gig where the guy hosting the event just had his laptop set up, all I had to bring with me was headphones and a jump drive with music on it.

I found myself really liking the "clock dial" as a quick reference. Traktor only has an audio graph to view which I don't think would be as useful for DJing..
I do know a lot of pros have switched to Traktor for the Live integration though. My understanding is that you can easily switch back and forth between your own work, cut up loops and tracks.

i purchased a numark omni controller and use traktor pro for dj's@eleven. i have limited space to set up turntables or cdj's and the portability of the omni controller and the laptop is a huge plus for me. i've caught some flack from people from moving away from any semblance of a dj setup but all i can say is, "i know how to dj, i've been a dj for almost 20 years and it's not like i'm going to forget how to work vinyl". i have serato on my laptop for any gigs that use it or i can just throw tracks on a thumb drive and go. coming from the days of lugging your turntables and crates around i'm very happy with the omni controller for it's portability and i haven't even dived into it's effects, looping capabilities, four turntable controls, etc. the controller along with the laptop and traktor pretty much allows me to carry my entire digital library wherever i want to go.

This is interesting.. I have to pull back from my earlier statement about the audio graph. It looks very useful for setting loops and such...

I've done my share of hauling records and turntables.. Like I said before, If I was a working DJ I'd park my records at home for the most part..
I'm pretty much a bedroom DJ these days (if at all), so I'm not in a huge rush to switch. When I do switch I'll still be using a vinyl interface, because a large portion of DJing for me is the therapy of it.. I enjoy playing with vinyl.

Exotic and high tech for 30+ years.

Like I said earlier, I love Serato, but I've had a few minor problems since switching to Windows 7, mostly in USB drops, but they haven't really affected my performance.

a beautiful piece of hardware. makes me want to clean off the old 1200's in the basement.
Totally. I haven't been using mine too much lately in the manroom...I kind of want to detail one of them and put it on top of the credenza under the tv, hooked up of course.
Also would be fun to try something similar to this (top right) with a old piece of furniture, dremel tool, angle iron, etc...

I too have moved to Torq software in conjuction with either the vinyl or cd interface. I just thought it was interesting that 6 years ago people were looking for the next best thing to upstage pioneer in the cd turntable category yet through 2 hardware upgrades, mkii and mkiii, pioneer has remained on the cutting edge of the technology. Via the cdj, pioneer seems to have solidified itself as THE professional cd turntable just as Technics has been the professional standard vinyl turntable for many years.

mine are dusty these days.Mine are sadly sitting in boxes.. Basically I don't have the room for them...
I have an idea for a cabinet for my records and turntables, but no tools or a place to execute it...
As for new turntables, the only thing I've seen come close to the 1200s are the Numark TTX-1s.. They seem pretty solid and I like the features like reverse, +/-10,20,50 selectable pitch and removable audio and power connections(ever had an audio cable go bad on your 1200? it sucks and expensive/difficult to fix).. The motor seems pretty torquey too..
Other than the ttx1 and the 1200, the other DJ turntables I've used suck...

I have 1 TTX-1 and 3 1200mk2's. The TTX is solid. the 1200s sit in the flight crates in the basement right next to my numark CDX.
