So John Ross, I hung out by the phone yesterday waiting to expound upon my use of the new 2-wheel parking zones in Columbus. Only no call came, no interview was given, all my witicisms dried up and died like Langston's raisin. Seems less Wolfe Enterprises and more Other Papery.

I haven't used the spots, but I did notice that people have been parking on the city center pavement on the corner of Rich and High. the city does not have any signs up, just some paint on the pavement where the signs will go. as I walked to work this morning i saw the 3 bikes parked there all had Warning tickets on them.

oh and FYI to all the 2-wheel parkers - they have set up a long strip of 2-wheel only parking on High Street just south of first. It is basically the whole strip of High that fronts the empty UDF parking lot across from Rossi. It's a fairly central spot, that I haven't seen used too much yet.

Seriously, how is that not a benefit to businesses? make it easier for a consumer to get and be there(in the city) and they will come.
I'd be more prone to visit Rossi than Betty's/Lemongrass/Mac's just because of this. The food and prices are fine at all places, it's just that it would be easier for me to deal with getting to Rossi now. i just like to go and eat and leave, not walk around the SN (unless I'm going to walk around the SN, which I rarely if ever do)

I also wanted to respond to an article in TOP 'tripping the light fantastic' (i think) about tripping intersection signals. the guy for the city mentioned marking where 2 wheeled vehicles should stop to trip the light sensors. PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS BY PAINTING THE ROAD SURFACE.
When riding a motorcycle I avoid all painted surfaces because they are slick, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT RAINS OR IS WET!
Don't make the place where a 2-wheeled vehical is supposed to stop slippery, that would just be asinine.

I'm not sure, but there has to be some out there.
it would just seem backward to say STOP HERE and make the surface slippery. lots of people ride year round. I can tell you from experience that riding in April is very wet and to stay upright you need to avoid paint on the roads.

One alternative would be to have the paint there, but some sort of texture on the road to provide traction. Such as those crosshatch pattern crosswalks on High St.?
Avoid the paint, and those tar patch strips. They are not good places for two-wheels.

anything other than asphalt and you lose traction.
(cept for possibly rubber, I don't know, but rubber would not last long anyway. On a track the more rubber layed down into the track the better for traction)
possibly mark AROUND the spot you are supposed to stop, Not ON the spot you are to stop.
