No one I know could figure out a way to make it work. I finally gave up and got my Mac set up to dual boot so I could access the work websites (like our hr site with my paychecks) that only run on IE6. Now I can boot up my Mac in crappy Vista and check what I need to check.
We had the same issue here at work and could find no work-around other than to resurrect an old Windows machine for the sole purpose of running IE6. Sorry couldn't be more help...
Could you share the site? I'd take look see...
Have you tried Opera? You can tell Opera to identify its self as IE.
Yeah, I've got a web app that I use for my business that only runs in IE6. Sucks, but I've not found a good way to get it to work other than dual booting or having a spare PC on hand. :(
what about using Parallels in Coherence Mode?

There are Firefox extensions which emulate IE within a specified tab. No idea if they are on a Mac though.

Or VMware for that matter..
I use Linux with a virtual XP machine for all my windows needs, and it works fine. Also, anyone specifying IE6 should be shot.
AH: the Firefox hack doesn't "emulate" IE, it actually runs IE within the tab. It's Windows only last I checked.
The site I want to access is the MLS website: http://cbrmls.columbusrealtors.com
Sounds like I may be screwed here. That winebottler app, even though it says it runs IE6 stably, doesn't.

IE6 never ran stable anyway, so its an accurate reproduction
If you don't want a dual boot, you could try Virtual Box, which allows you to run a Windows machine inside a window on your Mac. I believe it's open source. Not sure how difficult it is to set up and install, mine was installed for me at work.

Yep, got tired of using VMware Desktop on my laptop and switched to this. It was pretty easy to set up, and works pretty well, however I'm not sure how hard to set up it is on Mac (dead easy on Linux).
This is the same idea as VMware or Parallels. You create a virtual operating environment running as an app on your computer and install an operating system into it.
It takes a little bit of CPU power and memory to do this but I find that it's worth it. I generally run XP and I find I barely notice it. I have about 5 things that I need run on it, and 3 of those are browser based, so it's pretty unobtrusive.
if it were me... I would use a spare computer built from junk parts to do this on the occasions you need to run IE rather than pollute a computer you actually care about.
It's also probably less work/effort/hassle.
(actually, that's exactly the solution I used to solve the problem of "windows only apps". I have a small computer that gets turned on about once a week that runs windows... I live the rest of my life blissfully in unixland)

I used to do that, and then I got tired of maintaining a spare junk machine. Now I just have a nice desktop and a older but still nice laptop, and no need for junk machines. Virtual machines are nice because you can just turn it on when you need it and pause it when your done. Any crap you need to install is done on the virtual machine. Also no carrying around 2 laptops!
I have two HDDs in my desktop and I can boot to either one. The primary HDD has Windows 7, the secondary has Windows XP. I have all of my data stored on a third HDD that is accessed by either operating system.
The only problem with my setup is that there may not be Windows XP drivers for every device in my machine. I have some old legacy games that won't run on XP. Someday I will build an old Windows 98SE machine to run those games.
Ok, whew this computer stuff is tricky.
So considering I want to only use one machine, my MacBook, it appears I have two options. Please help me out..
So there is this "VirtualBox" program I can download for free, but I'd still need to buy a copy of Windows to somehow install on it?
VS.
Buying both Parallels and a copy of Windows to run on it?
This raises other questions. Where do I get the cheapest copy of Windows...eBay? What Windows should I use? XP, Vista, 7??(I would think cheapest available that runs IE6+?) Would I need the latest version of Parallels (5.0) to run an older version of Windows? Can you even buy older versions of Parallels? Am I asking too many questions?

I'd try out the version of VirtualBox, since it is free.
As for what to run? I'd use XP. Vista is a huge pig and Win7 is probably overkill to just run a browser and maybe a few programs. XP is plenty lightweight and still runs IE 6-8. Someone might have a copy of windows for you to run around here. Let me dig around and see if I have some spare reg keys and an XP disk for you.
If you know someone at OSU they can buy Win7 Pro for $35 from Uniprint, and you can pick up Parallels at Wiredout next door. I forgot what the price was for Parallels, though I did think it was discounted.
Again, gotta have a valid BuckID.
ETA: the copy OSU sells is for an upgrade, but do a google search about activating an upgrade on a fresh install.
That'd be great, Michael - thanks!
It does look like you can get Parallels 4.0 on eBay for around $25 too I found, but VB's zero dollar price is pretty appealing.
