It's new just north of Graceland on High St. I'm considering it as a suggestion for father in law's birthday but don't want to risk a terrible experience.

Funny you should mention it! A old friend of mine actually opened it, and I just found this out last week! I'm planning on making a trip up there sometime soon to check it out and chat with him and his girlfriend about the place. It sounds like it's still in a bit of a transitional state (it used to be Azteca’s Mexican restaurant). With that in mind, I'd probably stop in first to see what you think before making a recommendation. It sounds like they just got it open very very recently.

Porter's Pub? I missed this one somehow. All the kitchen equipment should be there. I wonder if he's going to serve grub as well.
Old Bag of Nails isn't much further away and has a good reputation, and tasty fried pickles.

We just opened up the last week of October and everything has been going really well so far. Feel free to stop in and check out the place whenever it is convenient for you. Our hours are 11 am to 1 am and we are currently closed on Sunday's. We have hosted quite a few events/parties so far and from the feedback we've received the guests have been pleased with the place. Without having a large group of committed regulars yet, depending on if there are any other events that day, parties pretty much have the place to themselves. The kitchen opened up last Monday and Danielle (the owner) will usually put out some appetizers/food for an event free of charge. The phone number there is 6144364480 and once again Danielle should be able to answer any questions.
Thanks,

I <3 Porter's! They've put a lot of work into un-Azteca-ing it. It's a comfortable little neighborhood spot now. Huge beer selection, you must try at least one Vanilla Porter (or five). And Danielle creates some fun specialty nights, there was a wine tasting the last time I was in. Bonus points for cutest namesake ever!
I nominate it for a future CU meetup for us north North High-ers.

CaveFeel free to give us the headsup on events and/or specials, I'm sure you'll find a few soon-to-be regulars on here with a post or two. We'll be headed that way soon.

We stopped in a month or so ago and found it to be a very typical neighborhood bar type of place. The service was friendly, if a little slow. Prices were great. The only downsides were the setup of the space (seemed a little disjointed/empty, but we were there when it first opened) and the lights were a little too high.
I'll definitely stop back though since it's nearly stumbling distance from me.

You got it, man. Sounds fun.

I had lunch at Porter's today. Here's a quickie review: The menu was small and full of your typical bar food. My husband had chicken wings and fish and chips; I requested the turkey reuben be made vegetarian by subbing mushrooms for the turkey. (There were no veggie entrees offered.) All were prepared well though nothing appeared to be home made except for the coleslaw. Service was excellent. Beer taps are coming soon and the bar currently has a wide bottle selection. There are four dart boards with league play on Tuesdays and Wednesday starting in January.

Don't make it up to the Graceland area often, but might stop here sometime. How far north does the 21 go again?

Must try in honor of my 3 year old fat cat Porter who loves to pig out! :)

We stopped in yesterday to catch some basketball before heading to Bob's Bar. The TVs were weirdly placed and impossible to see from the bar or any of the booths. Service again was slow and not very friendly. The menu seemed to be 100% frozen items and 95% deep fried. We ordered jalapeno poppers for lack of better options and when they came out, they were still freezing cold inside. Add in the fact that there still isn't any beers on tap and it was a very miserable experience. We hightailed it out of there as soon as we could get our bartender's attention and headed straight to Bob's.
It's a shame because there's such potential for a good neighborhood bar that serves food on that stretch of High Street.
