"Over Your Cities Grass Will Grow" screened at the Wexner Center last Thursday. The film is an examination of Anselm Kiefer's studio and work near Barjac, France.

I enjoyed the movie. It really got me thinking about Kiefer as a fine artist vs Kiefer's place in the context of visionary environments and outsider art. It's worth checking out if you're a Kiefer fan and have the patience for a pretty meditatively paced film.

It was in town for just the one day. I missed it too. :(

There's no date yet for home video release in the US, and it's still technically on the festival circuit, so we'll probably have a wait ahead of us.

Yeah, just the one night from what I could tell.

The compound is pretty wild too. If I understand the chronology correctly, Kiefer cleared out of there in 2008 and left it to nature. The film doesn't say what became of the space, but I thought I read somewhere it's still being tended to. Perhaps someone should go visit and report back. :)
