What if they put COSI back in it's original space.. if it's still there and available.. Or just move it to the other side of downtown in the discovery district.. and turned the area where COSI currently sits into a large downtown riverfront Market Place.. Maybe give it a carnival type atmosphere.. maybe a ride or two... like the ferris wheel they used to put downtown along with the ice skating rink (but not including the ice skating rink at the Market Place..).. Maybe even a board walk....

An interesting idea, but who would pay to move COSI again? I doubt highly that COSI has the money or desire to move locations.
Let’s take COSI out of the equation. Debatably, Genoa Park is big enough to turn into a riverfront Market Place. It could be a seasonal affair where merchants set up temporary facilities and sell there wares. Entertainment could be erected there pretty easily as well.
The problem with this is you could not draw enough customers from the suburbs (i.e. the Whole Foods and Trader Joes crowd) to make this feasible. On top of that, the North Market would likely raise a big stink about this since it would siphon off the downtown and near downtown crowd that currently frequents the Market.
So my question to you is; what’s wrong with the North Market, beside it not having a Ferris wheel?

The North Market might as well have a ferris wheel on Saturdays...
Bouncy Castles, face painting, pony rides, petting zoo, etc.
If I wasn't already in the vicinity (and on a bicycle) I would avoid the double-wide stroller set on Saturdays.Posted 2 years ago # -
I'd rather use COSI as developmental leverage to fill in that whole peninsula. There's a huge opportunity there. No need to move it and replace it with something else. Why not just add a market NEXT to COSI? There's plenty of room for more than one thing over there.

I once again exploited the 12 hour meters at COSI today. 25 cents for 75 minutes-too good to be true! Grossology should be a destination for all kids 3 & up.

Anybody else see Brave Combo or any of the other cool shows that have been on the Riverfront Stage? The "Family Fun Fest" that must have suffered because of the economy was a hidden treasure. Fireworks downtown at sunset in September (considerably earlier in the evening than July 3rd) with no real traffic-once again, too good to be true!

The notion to redevelop the peninsula has been around for decades in various forms. Here's a plan Sasaki did in the early '90's:

Very true. Don't forget that the health dept. was demolished too. The area between the tracks and COSI is a blank slate!

I think it would be great to integrate Cosi with a Navy Pier (Chicago) like park. It would draw more traffic to Cosi and the downtown development currently taking place.

I just like rearranging stuff.. :)
