You never know! after florida last year I don't like being the favored team. I still think we learnd from our mistakes and hopefully illinois got it out of our system for the year. Loosing that is.

ya know though, granted it was an upset, but Illinois is a really good team!
They have a better record than either team LSU lost to, are ranked higher, and have a Heisman candidate!!!
oh...and they're playing on New Years Day in the Rose Bowl!!!

wow, bcnation is an lsu fanboy. id be willing to bet there will be atleast 50% buckeyes at the game... if not more.
and i love people who say "its not really a national championship" like this year is any different than the last 10 or so. just because about every sport at every level in the nation has a playoff system with the exception of college football... now that there is not a clear "best" team its "a farce of a national championship"... pfft.

Actually, IIRC he's a pretty big Michigan fan. I'm sure a lot of OSU folks would have a pretty similar opinion if the teams positions were reversed.

Not even all of college football -- every other college football division BUT I-A/FBDS (or whatever the stupid new "Bowl Series" abbreviation is) has a playoff.
I expect the "+1 game" format to be no more than a couple years off at this point. I expect any form of REAL playoff to be quite a bit further out, unfortunately.

What state is the game being played? LSU has basically home field advantage, so I'd be shocked if the Buckeyes actually pulled it off, considering their 0-8 Bowl record against the SEC. If they played West Virginia (had they shown up @ Pitt) and NOT LSU, then the Buckeyes would have won, because...

OSU had a better shot against Florida last year than Michigan does this year against Florida, and I as a Michigan fan, thinks that Florida will beat OSU, er, Michigan, in the Citrus, er, Capital One Bowl.

I care because it gives OSU at least some chance of redeeming the embarrassment of last year's game. Playing the SEC champ and (hopefully) coming out with a solid win will help recoup some lost rep.
Meanwhile, while WVU vs. OSU might have been an exciting game, a win over WVU would've just generated a collective "Meh - you beat a freaking Big East team! Didn't you hear they're not allowed to play defense in that conference anyway?"
