Small Business Saturday takes place this weekend

Small Business Saturday 2011 is slated for this weekend, falling right between Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Founded by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday is an effort to encourage consumers to shop at small businesses during the holiday season. The inaugural Small Business Saturday was held Nov. 27.

I am wondering if any SN businesses are doing any special promotions for this? It looks like a nice thing Amex is doing for small businesses and another reason to use their card.

Does anyone else find it ironic that this is "sponsored" by American Express?

(as many small businesses don't accept it do to their fee/volume cost.)

I think I posted my question accidentally in an older thread last night and Walker may have deleted it. In that thread the higher fee issue came up.

Basically it seems that the Amex user demographic may be a good customer base to court as they tend to spend more and do it often. As an Amex user I appreciate the service the card provides and will use it whenever I can. I also appreciate it when stores make it easy to take my money.

I believe Amex's initiative might stem from many small businesses not accepting Amex. So the customer goes into that store and there's dialogue between the business and customer that could encourage the business to accept the credit card. In the end, the scenario is a plus for everybody involved.
