Confession: I just preordered. No more hauling heavy books across the country for me. Plus - free 3G?

I do not believe it has free 3G.

This model doesn't have free 3G, but it is wi-fi enabled.

Looks like all models except the fire have free 3G.

Nicely priced against Kindle-only Kindles, but IMO needs the ability to connect via a carrier to be truly useful as a tablet. Connecting to Wi-Fi on the road is a fiasco more often than not.

Yup --- seeing the no 3G too... which is still fine, considering how I'll use it.
My only concern is the screen - in order to get the color, it won't have that matte-paper-looking quality of the regular Kindles. But. COLOR. Color is better.
Basically, I've been lemming an iPad, this is hugely cheaper & will do what I want. I'm exactly the consumer this thing was intended for.

Target to Stop Selling Kindle
by Todd WassermanTarget is planning to stop selling Amazon’s Kindle in its stores, a move that reflects the chain’s frustration with losing sales to the online retail giant, according to reports. The retailer plans to phase out Kindle sales this month, says Target rep Molly Snyder.

Had my Kindle for over a year and still using daily. I've never had too many issues connecting to most open wifi sources and the basic browser will let you log onto wifi sources with sign-in pages. Yes, it's a poor mans tablet but it offers a lot more than just a e-reader app.
While I don't see myself upgrading to the Fire since my cell phone handles pretty much everthing the Fire offers but on a smaller screen of course. Kindle and Koffee time is part of my daily schedule.

FWIW, the Kindle app for smart phones is free and excellent. I've been using it on a Blackberry and prefer it to any dedicated Kindle. Easy to read in bright sunlight or pitch black.

My wife loves hers.

I have one and I love it. I prefer reading books on the older Kindle, but at least on the Fire you can look at mags, movies, etc.
For the price, I think it is great. I have Amazon Prime as well, but am not as impressed with their selection of "free" movies that come with it. Overall, I say that it is worth it.
