God forbid we provide reasonable accommodation (really independence) to those who honestly can't drive-be it due to age or a medical issue.

I had an almost identical conversation last week with my grandmother in Cleveland's south suburbs. She went to school in the Oakland area of Pittsburgh and always relied on streetcars and the interurban. After moving to Cleveland, she went to work and shopping on RTA, but now avoids it due to safety and accessibility concerns.
Lack of good, safe public transit in Ohio cities is doubly troubling for senior citizens. Some want to turn to public transit because they have lost the ability to drive. Others have relied on public transit for decades, but no longer trust it.

Published: June 18, 2009CENTRAL OHIOâ€â€The fight for federal money is on, and Ohio is in the race for a piece of the $8 billion that President Obama recently allocated towards improving passenger-rail service.
Passenger trains were expected to be up and running in Ohio by 2010, but the fight for federal money is pushing the project back to 2011.
Governor Ted Strickland is asking for about $250 million to complete the 3-C corridor.
