There are only three bands... are there only three bands?

There are only three bands... are there only three bands?Ooooh, I feel like a failure. I've never heard of the top 3 from 2008. Hopefully I won't feel so out of the loop after the top 2009 are revealed, looking forward to it! Kind of. Unless I once again prove to be oblivious. But then I'll have an entire year to check them out before the crushing blow of the 2010 list.

As far as where are they now, Sinkane himself definitely took off. Ahmed is now in Of Montreal and was on Letterman not too long ago. His solo record was also really good. No word on the 2nd album they mentioned in the article, but that could be because of aforementioned developments.
I've seen Slide Machine a couple of times, and they've been inconsistent in my opinion. Some really good shows, others that haven't had quite the same energy and intensity. But then again, who knows, that could be based on what I brought to the show.

I'm guess Ghost Shirt and Main Street Gospel, and there will be some rapper I have never heard of. Maybe Day Creeper and/or Fey Gods? They should be.

I would agree that Main Street Gosipal is in the running. I really think that Floatation Walls is up to some really good work also and deserves a look.

YO!
The bands are out. http://www.columbusalive.com/live/content/features/stories/2009/01/15/btw_sneak/bands.html?sid=108
What does everybody think?
I've seen This is My Suitcase live a couple times. They have a really fun sound, which is extremely poppy and catchy, but I don't feel stupid listening to it.
I've also seen Couch Forts live. I really like there sound, at my first listen I wasn't too into their voices, but it grows on it. Plus, there live show is pretty cool to catch because its such a different line up of musical instruments than you would usually see.
Not sure about the other bands, have heard positive things about Karate Coyote but never had the urge to check them out.
any other thoughts?

GO MSG! I'm pretty tight with the fellas in Main Street and it's really nice to see them grow and receive some real recognition. I really like the Black Keys->Buffalo Killers->Main Street Gospel connection. In fact - that sounds like an Ohio rock and roll dream show.

Main Street Gospel is good. Great even. But they're hardly new.
I saw both Tin Armor and This is My Suitcase at Comfest. And was decidedly unimpressed by them.
Overall, with the exception of MSG, a decidedly unimpressive list in my opinion.
