The William H Thomas Gallery, the city's oldest and most influential black-owned private museum, is presenting this weekend the Fifth Annual African Village Arts Festival.

In past years, I've heard comments from people along the lines of "I didn't attend because I'm not African." Let me be clear. You don't have to be Greek to enjoy the Greek Festival. You don't have to be German to go to Oktoberfest, or Irish to go to the Dublin Irish Festival. There are people of all races and nationalities involved in planning and putting on this wonderful, community-sponsored event. If you live in the Olde Town East or King Lincoln District, the festival is an easy walk away, and a great chance for you to expand your cultural horizons.
