But lets not stop there.
It's going to cost more electricity to manufacture those oat clusters. And more to sell them in a grocery store. And that cost of Tigertree's AC would go up.
All those costs would go be passed to the consumer.

Then our goods would be more expensive to not just us but places we export to. So they would stop buying them and that would cost us jobs. Jobs for people that can no longer pay their electric bill.

Soon we would have record drops in company values, high unemployment, increased dependence on government assistance, decreased tax revenue and increased costs causing a budget crises.

So, how many tens of thousands of dollars, jobs and decreased standard of living would you give up for clean energy?

Exactly. If you're for solar research I'm with you, but until solar is developed to the point consumer grade hardware produces electricity at a lower price point than coal / gas then it's not a viable replacement.

No, artificially raising the price on coal / gas isn't a solution. It just makes the problem worse, faster.

Yes. And that is for very cheap energy (compared to other countries). I'm not aware of to many fixed income retires who could afford to multiply thier electric bill. (And us boomers are about to really tax the system (GET OFF MY LAWN))

When I was asked earlier about the issue of coal…under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket…even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad, because I’m capping greenhouse gasses, coal power plants, natural gas…you name it…whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, they would have to retro-fit their operations

I had the pleasure of having dinner this weekend with the former dean of the OSU Physics department. He gave up his position to lead a research group.
They are working on clean fusion. (I asked him what he was working on and he said; "creating suns")

I am convinced that in my lifetime, the generation of electricity is going to be so fundamentaly changed that we can not concieve of it. It will as revelutionary a leap as a guy in the 1400 pulling his cart with a yak in muddy ruts to todays semi trailers on the highway.

So while everyone frets, regulates and postures about coal vs. gas and if C02 is a toxic gas, I can ony think

WHY ARE WE NOT FUNDING THIS GUY MORE!!!!???

Area electric bills soar 33 percent in 5 years

New AEP rates stun small businesses

The PUCO has fielded about 25 complaints about rates from small businesses this week. Some small-business owners are furious about a sudden rise in electricity costs, the result of a new American Electric Power rate plan that took effect this month. With immediate increases of up to 40 percent, business owners said they are faced with cutting workers, reducing investment and making other changes as they struggle to deal with an increased expense that many of them did not see coming.

PUCO ‘addressing’ AEP rate hike

State regulators did an about-face on electricity rates for American Electric Power small-business customers yesterday, vowing to change a system that has led to soaring bills for that group of customers. The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio said its decision to approve the rates was based on incorrect estimates from AEP about the extent of the rate increases, which exceeded 40 percent for many customers.

PUCO chief wants AEP rate change this month

The timetable will be short and the deliberations private as Ohio utility regulators race to address complaints about American Electric Power rates. This follows an uncustomary statement from the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio on Friday in which its chairman said he will take action to reduce rate increases for small businesses. The hikes were part of a rate plan the agency’s governing board approved unanimously two months ago.

Local businesses risk layoffs from AEP rate hikes, Kasich’s office unresponsive

Sugardaddy’s, a Columbus-area company that operates 3 retail shops, an online store and has 20 full time employees during the regular season and 26 during the holiday season, uses a lot of electricity. According to a letter signed by Mark Ballard and other downtown small business owners, Sugardaddy’s spent $35,000 on electricity last year. All of it paid to American Electric Power (AEP). Due to recently approved AEP rate increases, Sugardaddy’s expects to pay $55,000 this year – an increase of $20,000!

PUCO Votes To Revert AEP Rate Increases

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio on Thursday ordered American Electric Power to return its rates to levels similar to those in place that were in December. This decision came after small businesses and residential customers spoke out against the electricity provider after seeing significant increases to their electricity bills. PUCO approved an agreement in December that enabled AEP to transfer to a market-based generation rate structure from 2012 to 2016.
