Anyone else notice the incredible over use of the word, "actually"? Is our reality in question so much as to need this constant reinforcement? Or is the world full of so much bullshit we need to prop up and support every thing we say?

Actually, I was actually just about to start an actual thread about the word "actually."

absolutely

It's not nearly as annoying as the overusage and mis-usage of the word "literally."
But I did literally just tell someone the other day that people said 'actually' too much.

Honestly.

Actually, I thought 'over the moon' was the phrase most recently overused.

Actually, I can't stand the word Irregardless.

I say literally way too much. Sometimes I even annoy myself :(

Honestly, that is the best fact I have learned on CU. That irregardless is a word. When was it added to the dictionary? Has it been in the dictionary since the early 20th?

The best answer I could find seemed to be that it began to be included in 1961.

Sorry, wrote too hastily -- it's listed in my OED as well, though the definition says "the word is regarded as incorrect in standard English."
Didn't occur to me until just now, but that seems like a bit of a paradox...

I say "honestly" about a gajillion times a day. Maybe that means I'm a compulsive liar?

But "actually" is so impactful.

OK now I'm just having fun with it.

Actually; the substitution of the verb 'got' as a catchall verb bothers me.
I got lunch
I got to the airport
I gotta to goYou got that?

Where I work we have to watch a whole bunch of safety videos each year.
One of them was called 'workplace aggression'.
The presenter in the video used the words 'irregardless', 'gots', 'gotta' 'orientated', along with very poor grammar. By the end of the video I wanted to reach through the screen and smack him.I told my boss the video worked, by the time it was over I wanted to hit someone.
He wasn't amused.Posted 1 year ago #
