Product exclusivity based on anything but price has kind of died off in the past few decades because of internet shopping, chain stores that now reach into even the smallest towns and inexpensive travel. So, if a brand is seeking exclusivity they have to come up with new ideas.

I have some friends that work for some of the luxury fashion and product houses. They were telling me how they would send Snookie their competition's products. The intention of course is to damage the value of their competitor's brands.
That business can get nasty.
