A place for Wedding Reception

Hi All,

I am getting married on Jan 2 at some Indian temple (I am from India). On the same day, I am planning to give the wedding reception at some place which is not too costly. I am expecting around 35-40 people.

I figured that the best place to do that would be one of the lodge houses of Columbus Metro Parks (http://www.metroparks.net/SheltersLodgesReservable.aspx) but was too disappointed to see that all there enclosed lodges have already been reserved for that day.

I am planning to have some kind of dance (self DJ'ed) and lunch (from some catering service) at a lodge or a banquet hall. Do you have any suggestions? Budget is a constraint. Thanks :P

The Worthington Inn has a gorgeous upstairs private facility. My friends had a small reception there on a fairly tight budget. They were very attentive to detail and accommodating.

This is what we did last year also. It went perfectly and the staff was great.

I think our total was 45 people.

Checkout Greystone Winery on S Front st. I am not sure what your definition of "not too costly" is but they are very reasonable. Everything is included in a package so pricing is straight forward.

The Thurber House literary center & museum has an adjacent facility that they rent out for events - super convenient (right at intersection of I-71 and Broad St) and very reasonably priced (last I checked).

I spoke to them regarding our reception, nothing even close to "not too costly".

I was blown away about what people charge just to use a space. Mind blowing. Boom, head explodes.

Did you check the non-Metro parks? Many of the city parks also have enclosed shelters, and are rentable, using a different rental system than the Metro Parks. I live just up the street from Westgate Park, and the shelter there is quite nice. It's an old stone building with a couple of gas fireplaces (which you can have on) - there isn't much of a kitchen facility at this time, so if whoever was catering needed much more than a counter and fridge, you'd need to look somewhere else. They are pretty darn reasonable for day rentals though, and I highly doubt it's booked.

I've seen folks come in an decorate the heck out of the place with strings of lights and such inside, and it looks really great... (we had about 10 different sized Christmas trees in there once for a party & it looked like a winter wonderland).

The American Legion hall in Westerville is nice and cheap ($70/hour $700 max) it has a full kitchen, a sound system that is iPod/Laptop ready and acoustic tiles in the ceiling to keep the echo down. you'd need to hire a caterer and rent linens, but depending on what you want for food you'd be saving a bunch on the hall. They have plates, tables and chairs a plenty.

We looked all over the city for our wedding back in September and it was the nicest place for the price.

LaScala doesn't seem too unreasonable either but it depends on the menu.

We didn't find many places we could do our wedding for under $2000 total, but these were the best we found. We got lucky and my father got us a friends and family discount for a place he does freelance IT work at.

Did you check the Whetstone event facility too?

you might also check with Simon-Kenton council Scout Camp Lazarus. so long as there are not scout events that day, they have a pretty low cost structure as well.

Wild Goose Creative? I love their brick funky interior, sound system is already set up and directions are easy.
