A Columbus-y New Year's Resolution for 2012

So I love new year's resolutions. This year, I'm "resolving" to do one Columbus-y thing every week. I was just thinking that I've lived here for about four years now and although I've done a lot, there's still so much I should do.

Any suggestions for what I should include on my list? Places to visit, events, restaurants, anything. Can be big or small!

Here's what I have so far:
-Highball Halloween
-Doo-Dah parade
-tour of Midwest Spirits
-visit a taco truck
-visit food carts
-go on a Columbus Food Adventures tour
-show at Shadowbox
-get married at COSI :)

Depending on how self-indulgent I feel and how much time I have, I might blog or otherwise write about my experiences.

Go topless at Comfest? Well, OK, just attend Comfest. But honestly, this is one of the things that stands out to the folks I know from out of town, even many of whom were familiar with Party Cove at the Lake of the Ozarks!

However, not knowing what you've done (assumed you hadn't done the above), here's some other stuff that I've done to experience Columbus-y things (I'm originally from St. Louis):

See the Santa Maria
See a show at every old theater downtown
Go to the state fair
Eat Jeni's Ice Cream
Visit North Market
See skunk cabbage in bloom
Eat at Betty's, Schmidt's, Alana's, and so many others

BTW - congrats on the last one :)

Love it! With the exception of North Market and Betty's I haven't done anything else on your list. And Betty's I should probably re-visit...it was a late-night experience.

Where would one find this "skunk cabbage"? Sounds exotic!

Skunk cabbage blooms early, and smells, well, unpleasant. But it is sort of exotic for the area, and a must see, IMO. We went to see a whole bunch behind some office building in Dublin off I think Riverside Drive. Friends pointed it out to us, and I don't remember the exact details, since it was several years ago. I'll ask my friends. Maybe someone else on CU will know and reply sooner...

Jeni's and Betty's are the 2 places we take nearly everyone from out of town (and we have a lot of different out of town visitors). Jeni's is, well, Jeni's. And Betty's is close to our home, everyone likes it, and besides, it holds a special place in our hearts, since it's the first place I ate the first time I visited Carl in Columbus after we started dating (long distance, we were co-workers in different states). I got in late on a Friday after a flight from St. Louis, we sat at the bar, I had a reuben and Carl had meatloaf. It was love at first bite..um, Betty's that is :)

The friend who took us doesn't remember exactly where this was. But, here's a suggestion: it's really a matter of knowing where to go when they are blooming, so it's kind of word of mouth from folks who have seen some. At least, that's how we found out when we saw them. You may want to post in late winter/early spring (you might want to google for bloom time), and see if anyone knows where skunk cabbage is blooming. It often blooms when snow is still on the ground, and the plant itself generates heat to attract flies for pollination. I didn't really notice any significant smell (I remember I put my nose right into one), but I'm not sure if it's timing or what for the odor. Anyway, it's a plant I'd never heard of before I came to Cols...and I'm kinda into plants. Good luck!

I found skunk cabbage along the boardwalk in the Kiwanis Riverway Park in Dublin.

I don't know how I missed the updates to this discussion (actually, I do, I forgot to subscribe) but I LOVE all of the suggestions. I haven't done most of what you guys listed so I'm so excited about some new adventures. Columbus is so great.
