Now showing at Columbus Civic Theater in Clintonville, the Civic's own adaptation of the classic Dickens tale of redemption, A Christmas Carol, plays for 3 weekends only. This adaptation focuses on the original tale by relying upon an ensemble of 12 actors to portray upwards of 75 roles in a fast-paced and highly imaginative production. The well-loved yarn of spiritual intervention and renewal comes to delightful life and offers a rich theatrical experience.
Jim Azelvandre wonderfully embodies the role of the classic curmudgeon while the 11 other actors portray all the characters Scrooge encounters before, during, and after his otherworldly tour. Sets and props are deliberately minimized to keep focus on Scrooge's journey from "tight-fisted hand at the grindstone" to "as good a man as the good old city knew." There is no great spectacle in this production, but a clear story told through carefully orchestrated stagecraft. Adaptation and direction by Ben Gorman.
Performances are Thursday - Saturday nights at 8:00PM, Sunday matinees at 2:00PM. Performances are just about 2 hours, including intermission. Tickets are available online at the Civic's website, and unpaid reservations can be made by phone at (614) 447-PLAY (7529).
Columbus Civic Theater is donating $2 of the price of every ticket sold to Wings of Hope America, a charitable organization in Columbus serving the homeless and destitute. Columbus Civic Theater is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization serving greater Columbus.
